About Me

Hello, my name is Andy. I was an automotive technician (fancy word for mechanic) from high school up until fairly recently when I realized I was miserable and decided to go back to school. I also decided to start traveling and try to see and learn as much about this world and the people that inhabit it as possible. I am excited to meet new people and experience different cultures and it seems couch surfing is the best way to do so. I have a deep desire to see and learn as much about this wonderful world we live in as possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am here so that I can gain a deeper insight into the areas that I am travelling . Learning about local culture, cuisine, customs, politics, music, and art is what I hope to gain through couchsurfing, not to mention making some new friends. Money can't buy the memories and experiences that we can gain from a simple meal and conversation, in that aspect many of the people on couch surfing are the richest people on the planet because our experiences are priceless.

I became more interested in travel, food, and culture from watching Anthony Bourdain (RIP). Couchsurfing embodies that spirit and that is why I am here.

“If I’m an advocate for anything, it’s to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. Walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food. It’s a plus for everybody.”
– Anthony Bourdain

“Travel is about the gorgeous feeling of teetering in the unknown.”
– Anthony Bourdain

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

Sorry, too many quotes!!!!

Interests

Muay Thai, skiing, food, mma, motorsports, culture, customs, and traditions, really anything that involves food, adrenaline or learning something new. I am always fascinated by history and how things work. Understanding how the world works and all the complex interactions that are happening all around us and even inside of us all the time is fascinating. The beauty of the world is that there is always something new to learn, everyone from the billionaire to the bum can teach you something.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: punk, ska, punk, reggae, hiphop, metal, indie, folk and traditional music mostly, but I am very open minded!
Favorite bands: Streetlight Manifesto, Bad Religion, Against me!, NOFX, Gogol Bordello, AFI, Flogging Molly

Books: Chomsky, Zinn, Vidal, Sachs, Collier, Tolkien, CS Lewis, are some of my favorite authors. It may be cliche, but the Lord of the Rings books are probably my favorites.

Movies.. I really like dialog heavy films, like Tarantino or Kevin Smith
