About Me

NOT HOSTING RIGHT NOW. also this bio was written pre-covid so it may be outdated

Passionate explorer of Atlanta. World traveler.
Lover of music, parks, art, coffee, and food.
Writer of absolutely fantastic bios.

I love how while traveling you regularly meet interesting people from different cultures + I joined Couchsurfing to replicate that at home. So far, I've really enjoyed the people I've met as a host, at meetups, and at couch crash events!

In my several months using this app, Couchsurfing has undoubtedly changed my life. The people I've met have left a significant impression upon me and reinforced the importance of values such as freedom, acceptance, and hospitality.

I live in Midtown ATL, wiling to give bike/escooter tours of the city! I love exploring Atlanta, I feel like it's a really really cool city if you know where to go

Also always looking for travel partners! I intend to travel a lot later this year. Last year, I went to Ecuador, Japan, Puerto Rico, and several cities across America (edit: this was written in 2020 right before covid lol)

Here's my favourite travel story about when an elderly couple adopted me for a day in small town Japan. Embodying the true spirit of Couchsurfing!

MY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ATLANTA

You'll best enjoy our culture if you go where the locals go. The tourist traps are alright but not something I feel are necessarily representative of the city.

I recommend walking, biking, or scootering the Beltline trail. It starts at 10th St / Monroe Dr which you can walk to from Midtown. The Beltline connects inner city neighbourhoods so you can use it to head between Piedmont Park, Ponce City Market (and O4W Park), Little 5 Points (10 mins off the trail, artsy hipster area, fun to browse shops), Krog Street Market (walk west down Edgewood / Euclid from L5P you'll pass two parks and art galleries), Krog Street Tunnel (ever changing street art graffiti tunnel anyone can paint), Cabbagetown murals (the west ones are better but there's murals all along Wylie St both sides of the tunnel).

The MLK museum is nearby. It's free and I so highly recommend visiting, it has his tomb, two museums, his birth house, his church, and a historic African American fire station. Which is also right next to a big bar hopping area, check out Church and Joystick. Jackson Street Bridge and Oakland Cemetery are also nearby and worth going to.

Off the beaten path I'd recommend the Dolls Head Trail (ha ha..) and East Palisades Trail (river overlook, bamboo forest). Stone Mountain is popular and also really cool, the world's largest piece of exposed granite and is a really fun hike. All three are accessible by buses but are easier to Uber to.

Midtown is the most urban residential neighbourhood. It's so nice since it's walkable and I'm near all the cool parts of town. Downtown is meh but is more a destination (concerts, sports, museums). If you can, go to an Atlanta United game! We have the highest attended soccer team in the country, sometimes 70k attendance with drums and flags it's pretty amazing. (If you like soccer, Brewhouse Cafe in Little 5 Points is where the hardcore fans watch games. I'm a big Arsenal fan!)

Other miscellaneous things.. hmm there's always things going on. Go to comedy at The Laughing Skull, Dad's Garage, or Highland Inn. Go to Rocky Horror at Plaza Theatre. East Atlanta Village is a fun artsy grungy bar hopping area. Go to breweries! The Clermont Lounge if you want the most unique dive bar ever. Trap Music Museum is cool too! There's tons to do.

Atlanta has a very active Couchsurfing community! Weekly meetups and various other events organised over WhatsApp, contact Keary for more info as he's our CS ambassador.
