Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
to meet interesting, adventuresome people and help them enjoy this amazing place
ABOUT ME
I have a large house in a beautiful place where there is lots to see and do.
I enjoy helping people and making connections and hearing about different types of lives, outlooks, and experiences. I like adventures, art, books, good discussions, traveling, camping, river trips, hiking, skiing, seeing new beautiful places, and lots of other things.
I live 2 miles from the town of Glenwood Springs in a small community in Glenwood Canyon right by a bike path and the Colorado RIver and very close to hiking trails that go up into the national forest. I work 3 days a week at the local hospital, in the past have also been ski patrol and nordic manager at Sunlight ski area. I do lots of river trips, ski trips. I am a painter and have a studio in my house. I also paint outdoors quite a bit.
PHILOSOPHY
Look for the good. Try to focus on the positive but stay educated and aware of the whole picture. Take responsibility for yourself. A good encounter radiates out.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am looking to host mostly right now, but also look forward to to being a guest. I don't have any big trips planned as of now.
I have a large very friendly (but well trained) black lab dog, who spends time in the house- just so people who don't tolerate dogs know.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I often camp or stay at friends' houses or friends of friends' houses, but am new to the organization. It looks great, and I'm excited to meet some adventuresome travelers.
Interests
I'm interested in too many things...environmental issues, science, art, the mind, physiology, medicine, communication, current events, people.

Music, Movies, and Books
Independent and foreign films are generally my favorites
I read a lot, fiction and non-fiction, a large variety of subjects but often about other places and cultures.
I like alternative music- world, soul, folk, some classical, some jazz. I do not like bubblegum top forty type stuff or schmaltz.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
From the Colorado River, Grand Canyon, two of us hiked and worked our way through thick reeds and over mud embankments and waded the rising river to the Hopi sipapu on the Little Colorado River during a thunder and hail storm. (The sipapu is the belly button of the world where the Hopis first entered this world and is a sacred place.) It is a hot spring with a large travertine deposit enclosing it within a giant shell with a small hole at the top. Inside the water is turquoise blue and bubbling, and offerings with feathers and other natural objects were set around.
Teach, Learn, Share
Not terribly special but I can teach skiing, both nordic and alpine, in summer beginner kayaking or rafting and help people figure out an itinerary for a camping or backpacking or bike tour or anything like that.
I've also taught English as a second language and would be happy to do that more.
