About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Traveling through Eastern Europe

ABOUT ME

I grew up a foreign service brat in SE Asia, but for the past year and a half I've been living and studying in Krakow, Poland, taking breaks to travel the region whenever possible.

After finishing high school in Jakarta, I studied Composition at Berklee College of Music, followed by an eight-month period devoted to learning German.

Hearing different languages going on around me, heavily accented English (or no English at all), familiarizing myself with the new country's transportation system, etc. All things that make many travelers panic or feel out of place but simply make me feel at home.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: just about anything with Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap, Princess Bride, Best in Show, Mighty Wind); Mel Brooks; Chris Nolan.

Music: Romantic-period orchestral--Beethoven, Wagner, Berlioz; hard rock/metal--old Metallica, Rush, Rammstein, Dire Straits, Ozzy.

Current summer reading: An Imperfect God (about George Washington and slavery), For the President's Eyes Only (history of American intelligence and how presidents used or mis-used it), The Great Terror (seminal work on Stalin's purges) and now I'm working on the second half of Les Miserables--though not in the original French... :-p

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watched Inception two days before release at a film festival in Pula, Croatia.

I don't know how you top watching a brand new, amazing film on a massive screen inside a 2000-year-old Roman coliseum, with the stars over your head and a warm breeze blowing through from the ocean every couple minutes.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany, Indonesia, Poland, Singapore, United States
