Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Invite and share my story; eager to see more fellow surfers; chat, learn and laugh. Within a month of discovering this site I hosted my first delightful guest, I'm joining groups and learning more, planning future travel...
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Modest to date - several guests, only one surfed/guest out of state (w amazing Daryl G) and, interestingly - an earlier variation of simple hospitality - in 1973 I was invited into several homes when I toured Europe alone - just by meeting strangers on trains, etc. - wonderful experiences; "paying it forward" now
Interests
My health, after lung cancer last Fall (no not a smoker) this neighborhood, my friends, local amenities, quirky things, talking while walking/sitting/traveling; people who love dance, exploring new foods, movies, news, tai chi, good conversation, yoga - finding the rare and wonderful in the everyday

Music, Movies, and Books
I mention movies I see in my Fb profile.
Went to "Cowgirls" show at ASF in June - sure to be popular with the overwhelmingly female audience (all female cast); glad to see it was extended.
Latest book I loved was The Routes of Man: How Roads are changing the world. Another was a work by Pico Iyer - remarkable travel writer.
I like so many kinds of music; even Eminem is a great lyricist and even has a couple danceable songs but he's often harsh
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
rented a scooter in Hue, Vietnam and "flew" along rice paddy and cemetery lined country roads out to the beach, until I ran out of gas ~ many folks sell pop bottle sized fuel from little stands in front of their homes.
genuine joy in the eyes of strangers, family and friends...
Crawled through the Cu-chi tunnels outside Saigon, Vietnam -yes, they were enlarged for Western tourists but still impressive complex - the ones on the coast near Hue were even more luxe - '03
Rode several centuries, in Ga mountains on "Six Gap" had a front blowout @ 40 mph - stopped without going down
Wandered the barrios of Tegucigalpa with my brother at sunset '04
Survived smashing body surf on Sandy's Beach at one of Hawaii's worst for tourists yearly; rolled underwater while body surfing, exhausted by rip tide in only a few minutes ~Thanksgiving Day '99
Cared for my wife as she became completely paralyzed and died over a several year span ~ an inspiration to me; now can never see too many sunrises and sunsets out of doors
The northern lights from Colorado Springs at 5 a.m. one chilly, winter morning as I looked north toward Denver while walking my lovely dog Toby
Climbed several Colorado 14ers; on a solo winter Xcountry ski/climb on a high 13ers - awoke w severe labyrinthytis above 10k'
