About Me

Hi there, I'm Alex. Bit about me...Since growing up, I have followed my passion for automobiles and math, and have been fortunate to end up in an academic position working directly with car companies.

Outside of work is really trying to be grounded. For me that means "disconnecting" from the grid since I program code in front of a screen all day. This could be climbing mountains or kayaking/hunting/fishing/etc...and well, lifting heavy weights pretty much every day!

** ABOUT MY HOUSE **
I live in a studio near Cambridge, MA. Since this is a studio, your "couch" is in the same room as my bed/closet/kitchen/etc...

...aka don't be weird.

That being said, your "couch" is actually a really awesome QUEEN size inflatable mattress...it even has a headboard! I have friends crash here and they tell me the mattress is the primary reason for them visiting. I have extra sheets/pillow/towel/etc. for you, and you can use the kitchen as long as you clean up.

My studio can accommodate at least 2 on the mattress, and I also have inflatable mountaineering pads if you are a group of 3. However, 4 people would be pushing it. If I end up not being there (e.g., travelling, staying with friend, you can use my bed also, and that would bump it up to something like 4-5 people.

There is public transit, but it is not on the subway system. There are rental bikes very close though (I bike commute every day). There is no WIFI since I do not have internet/TV at my place, but there are several coffee shops very close that do have internet.

**IMPORTANT** If you send me a couch request, please add the word "mango" in the request so I know you actually read this.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love traveling and have been fortunate to travel to many countries.
Most of my travels in my teens and early-mid 20's have had me staying in hostels and with locals (similar to couchsurfing), as I prefer the more local feel when exploring a new place. Now I stay in AirBnBs given my stable job, but the principle is the same.

I guess I made this profile as a bit of an experiment to give back a bit to travelers like myself by being a host in the great city of Boston. Why? Well, at risk of being cliche, my experiences traveling have given me the honest gift of finding that people across cultures have pretty similar emotional and existential needs. And now, given the polarization that engulfs the U.S. and world at large, perhaps that is needed more than ever.

(That's sounds self-righteous but I'm not deleting it)

I like cooking, and cook many styles decently but looking to learn more.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well, if I'm around as are you all...then perhaps good conversation, ranging from existentialism to math and implications of artificial intelligence.
