About Me

I'm a recent MSc graduate, living and raised in England. I have the unusual pleasure of having been born to two parents from very different parts of the world; a perplexing mix of Danish and Colombian. While I love England and her people, I have an adventurous streak and a keen desire to explore the rest of the world's places and people, perhaps inspired by the exploits of my parents in their youth.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel, and while there is a lot to be said for the comfort of a hotel or the comradeship of a hostel, in my opinion the most immersive and genuine experiences come from meeting and spending time with locals, who have come to know and love their home in the way that I did in England and France, and who can share some part of that with their guests. I want to know how it feels to be a part of the places I visit, rather than just be fleeting spectators. For me, at least, this is the essence of why I love to spend time in new places.

Interests

I am told that I am one of those rare mathematicians who knows how to talk to people, and not just to professors and books! I believe that I have a very curious nature, and part of what I enjoy most about meeting people from very different places is discovering how they think, work, play and live, and how this differs from me or other people and places I have known. I love music, and enjoy playing piano and singing when I can find the time. I also enjoy dancing, and am particularly keen on salsa!

Music, Movies, and Books

Deep house when I'm feeling happy, psytrance when I feel crazy, piano music when I feel calm, Coldplay when I feel sad, salsa when I want to feel Colombian again and Pink Floyd whenever, whereever, whyever!

My favourite book is Captain Corelli's Mandolin, which took me on a brutal but extraordinary ride, and left me in complete awe.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was lucky enough to be invited by my family to sail with them to Antarctica, where we saw some of the most humbling examples of the scale, intensity, and pristine beauty of nature that this planet has to offer. This was a experience that actually deserved to be called the trip of a lifetime.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you maths.

...just kidding! Honestly it's hard to say what I could teach you without ever having met you. In my experience, but without wanting to sound too enigmatic, I have found that teaching is just part of the learning process itself - whatever we have to teach each other, it will happen by learning about each other, our differences and similarities - by sharing ourselves, if you like.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am fun, engaging, curious and perhaps most importantly, polite and grateful in the impeccable British sense, to anyone who would be kind enough to offer me a chance to share your home and see your part of the world through your eyes.
