Overview
About Me
My name is Alex. I'm from a small town in Eastern Washington. I grew up riding my bike around town, running around outside until dark, and playing sports. After I graduated from high school I spent 8 years in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve where I learned to live with, depend on, and care about men and women from all over the country. I deployed to four different parts of the world and during breaks I traveled and explored. I keep thinking that I've drank beers, smoked cigarettes, and shared stories with every type of person and then every once in a while I meet somebody that is completely unique.
I spent the last couple of years living in Olympia, WA and attending The Evergreen State College. I started to get the desire to do something new so I spent this recent summer working at a camp in Maine. Now I'm driving to Texas to teach outdoor education for the year. I'll probably go back to Maine next summer. I really like the education work I'm doing, I get to travel in-between seasons, and I'm working on my teaching certification online.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
First of all, I love to meet new people, especially from a place I've never been. Not so much to get their advice about restaurants but to learn to understand how people living in that part of the world experience life.
Also, teaching outdoor education is not a high-paying job so if I can cut costs here-and-there, it's a good thing.
I've met lots of people that had great experiences on couchsurfing and recommend it. Everything sounds good to me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In early June I decided it was time for me to leave my barista job at Dutch Bros. Coffee and do something new. The next day I sent 100 Emails to camps all over the country, 48 hours later I had 5 offers, 3 days later I had cleaned out my apartment, quit my job, sold/packed/donated my stuff, dropped off a load of stuff with my parents ran every errand imaginable, then drove 12-hours-a-day + until I got to Maine a couple days later. Whew! It was an exhausting week, but a really great summer. I should have been on couchsurfing then, but I just didn't have the time to spare to create a profile.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach all about the culture, and physical environment of the PNW, all about sports (especially baseball), the American military, and I'm usually a great teammate for any kind of trivia game.
I love to discuss politics, philosophy, and beer, and learn from other people.
If there's something to learn, I want to know it.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I've been told I'm a good storyteller. If it's true, and I'm not saying I disagree, then I learned it from my dad.
I'm a great wingman, for literally anybody.
I love to cook. Would be happy to pick up groceries and make you dinner or breakfast.
Lots of labor experience. Spent a summer working on a dairy farm in Alaska, was a seasonal garbage man, helped my dad redo our house growing up. I'm happy to help out if something is needed!
