About Me
Hey there, lovely people! I’m Alice
I believe myself to be
• Cheerful, curious and active
• Open-minded, down-to-earth and accepting of others
• Conceptually adventurous
I like to set goals and be productive, but take every day as it comes. I try to adapt to every surprise and unexpected event. I tend to always focus on the positive and enjoy little things in life. Pollyanna, a book I read when I was small, left a huge mark on me and how I perceive the world:
“... there is something about everything that you can be glad about, if you keep hunting long enough to find it.”
In my everyday life, I just do what feels right for me. I try to do a bit of exercise and I started meditating daily. It gives me peace and helps to stay present throughout the day! Mindfulness and meditation practices generally help me to take control over intrusive thoughts and emotions and bring back to consciousness. I am also eager to learn more about healthy and sustainable ways of living.
All in all, I am very much laid-back and easy to sign up for different activities, for a crazy adventure or something unordinary.
I grew up in a very beautiful but small and rather flat (yes!) country (Latvia). Hence, my enthusiasm for travelling, climbing rocks and mountains, and hiking.
I am very enthusiastic about meeting new people from all over the world, and I am always open to those who have a true interest in connecting with me. Some days I feel more of a social butterfly than others, but there should be a very strong and valid reason for me to say ‘no’ to having a chat with someone. I seek to find a common language with every person I meet and I do believe that everyone I encounter is for a reason.
I love dreaming and thinking deeply. I’d enjoy all conversations about the environment, politics, gender and sexuality, etc., as much as about life and death, spirits and light, extraterrestrials and the distant galaxies of the universe.
At University, I studied Geography – a very broad exciting subject. I studied, weather, rocks, chemistry, development, arts and films… I can talk about it for ages.
Today I love thinking about solutions for humanity’s most challenging and important problems. I have recently left a job where I worked on international projects and harnessed the power of communications and creativity to bring about change in the world’s most fragile countries. I am still hugely passionate about this field, but I decided to take some time off for personal development, to travel and hopefully freelance in future. If anyone has done something like this and has any tips, I’d be happy to know more!
I’ve been to quite some places but on a planetary scale, it is so little. And I’m very excited to discover more and have fun with people along the way.
I drop any expectations, and I am curious about my future journey and what Couchsurfing holds for me… :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It is all about new people, knowledge and experiences, it is about bringing each other up by sharing different individual gifts and passions, and very rarely about accommodation. Every persons' experience in the world is so unique, and hearing personal stories is what fascinates me about getting to know new people. I love finding that something special that each of us has. I believe that every person can teach me something, either about the world, the universe or maybe about myself. Everyone has sth to share by a glass of wine (or juice) to think about and reflect on, We are all the teachers and we are all the students, and we eventually help each other become the best versions of ourselves. Besides, I just love lending a helping hand to those who need it, to cheer others up and share advice. For me, meeting new people and spending time with friends is probably the best medicine!
