About Me

Aren't these just the worst to fill out?

About me... about me.... *pauses*; *strokes chin*; *pregnant silence*

Well... I suppose I don't really know much of anything about me. Should I list off some things I've done, things I like, things I can do competently? All that sounds awfully superficial when the topic at hand is "about me".

Have you ever found this interesting? That we call this section "about me" instead of just "me"? I think it's because we can never directly express our real selves; that the act of trying to express them somehow muddles their original form, and we're left with ersatz renditions of who we are. In trying to explain ourselves, we're not really explaining ourselves, rather, we're listing off functions of our being so that other people can surmise where to put us in their own personal schema of the world. Are we friends, are we enemies; are we pivotal roles or are we ancillary?

I'll send off with this: I'm a person, just as you, I assume, are a person. Did you know this? The word person derives from the Latin, "persona", which means "mask". So, if you want to know more "about me", I suppose you should just jump to the chase and go through my mask collection.

"There will be time to prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet"

Be seeing you, xoxo

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Now here's a question I can answer!

I'm dissatisfied with the common narrative. Meaning, here I am, 26 years of age; my old friends are taking out mortgages, getting married, chasing jobs, and constantly fretting over the future in their own little ways. They're getting fatter; their voices carry this constant, unamused tone; they no longer find joy in the things they used to do. What's worse is I find the same banalities creeping up inside of my life as well. It's been almost a year since I've played a show and I haven't written anything to completion since I quit freelancing. I've been caught up in the drudgery of life; bills, hustles, and hollow relations. That is not the me that I would like to be!

I'm couchsurfing to see how others move in the world. This time around, in other westernized nations. Are there others out there that have developed a true joie de vivre? or are we all doomed to a monoculture which regards us as totally unnecessary human beings and as replaceable as piston rods?

Well, I was always up for adventure. Let's find out!

Music, Movies, and Books

God, I know this sounds absolutely priggish, but I can't put an attributive like "favorite" in front of any of these things. Our "favorites" tend to live such short, capricious lives. At one time, we prefer them before all others; and at the next, we can't even stand the sight of them. If you don't believe me, - and if this old-tech is of any relevance to you - see if you can dig up a mix-tape, a VHS, or a diary from grade school; your embarrassment is guaranteed.
Ok, ok, I suppose I should give you something, and at the risk of writing a flop novel, I'll try to be brief. First, Movies. I've got to go with The Big Lebowski, Monty Python, and every Wes Anderson film I've seen. I admire the absurd in art, particularly if the artist shows great attention to detail. That's probably why I adore Thomas Pynchon novels, and music by The Beatles and Os Mutantes. Currently, I've been watching a lot of French films in preparation for a trip I'm taking in October. Public opinion on him varies, but I think Gerard Depardieu is a terrific actor. He's gregarious, bombastic, a little maladroit; but above all, he's just so damned entertaining to watch. In particular, I thought he was fantastic in "Preparez Vos Mouchoirs" and "Danton".
I was going to go on, but you've suffered enough already.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Teach, Learn, Share

Geez, imperatives are so forceful...

I can teach you more than you'd ever want to know about English grammar. I can teach you how to divide and conquer your enemies. I can teach you how to inspire awe in those who follow you. I can teach you how to irreverently fill out "About Me" sections on any and all online profiles.

I can learn just about anything, provided it doesn't involve advanced mathematics.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Wine, wine, all the wine!!!

Aside from that, maybe some jokes ;)

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Colombia, France, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, United Kingdom, United States
