About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Getting reaquainted with Richmond, VA

ABOUT ME

I turned 30 in Alaska this summer, now I'm back in my native Virginia after 6 or so years of wandering. Maybe I'll stay put this time!

PHILOSOPHY

"We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next, to find ourselves. We travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our newspapers will accommodate. We travel to bring what little we can, in our ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are differently dispersed. And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again, to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more" -- Pico Iyer

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've done a bit of couch surfing in New York, California, New Zealand, England, and Denmark. I've also hosted someone one time in Virginia. I hope to do much more of both in the future!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A few years worth of hosting and surfing.

Interests

Music (record collecting), photography, travel. I'm a mediocre chess player and an above average beat boxer. I love reading books and going to libraries. Movies are awesome. Visiting cool old cinemas is usually at the top of my list when I check out new towns.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I read everything, but I'm especially fond of Jorge Luis Borges, Graham Greene, Paul Theroux, Pico Iyer, Jan Morris, Paul Bowles, Bruce Chatwin, and Milan Kundera, Haruki Murakami

Music: I love 60s and 70s soul and funk music (James Brown and Otis Redding are the best!), but I'm also into heaps of other stuff... ask, and odds are I'm int it!

Movies: Far too many to list, although I saw quite a few good ones in the last year. Beasts of The Southern Wild, The Master and Moonrise Kingdom where all stand outs!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Some highlights of the last few years:

Seeing Leonard Cohen play in Odense, Denmark.

Learning to scuba diving in Indonesia.

Experiencing 22 hours of sunlight in Alaska.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to learn about other cultures and people, and I'm more than happy to teach what I know.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, Netherlands, Singapore, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, China, New Zealand, United States
