About Me

I used to think I was a Christian because my Mother was. You know, I was young and assumed adopting a religion was akin to being genetically predisposed. Then i thought, well heck, why not give Atheism a shot. But then thoughts of "what if there IS some mighty man in the sky who has no qualms with sending me to a Boschian (you know, cannibalism, sodomy, the works) HELL?" plagued me and I cowardly forsook that. Then it was pantheism, agnosticism and wagonload of other isms.

Now I just amble around, plagued by indecision, galvanized by moments, but mostly just stoked that I am alive.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

to hear old stories, make new ones, maybe forget them, hopefully write about them, and maybe make some up along the way.

Music, Movies, and Books

I suppose I am supposed to go swinging my dick around in this section.

I will say this: I like Vonnegut and Roth and Miller and Toole. This means I have a newly pubescent boy's taste in literature. So I have that going for me, which is nice. I also pretend to understand Proust and David Foster Wallace, obviously, because I'm, like a writer. Anais Nin is spot on for very erudite erotica, you know, when the mood strikes. And Woolf is excellent for when you feel like Death is just like thread unraveling from its spool with no end in sight. Oh and the Brontes. One for when you're feeling insane and the other for when you're feeling indignant and bold. So these are my literary canons.

Music: I grew up on Nina, The Zombies, CSNY, Donovan, Zeppelin, L. Cohen, Dylan, S & G. After that was adolescent angst, so, naturally I listened to bad ass women like Fiona Apple and The Breeders and Carole King and the like. Then, in the terminal stages of nostalgia, Jazz and Blues sauntered in. Bessie Smith, Bechet, Blossom Dearie etc. And the denouement of this musical trajectory, for now, in the final chapters of now, is Schoenberg, Part, Chopin, Shostakovich, Wagner, Stravinsky and Bartok.

Movies: Oh I can't possibly. I will prattle on and on and on. There will be no end. Jumping off point: Annie Hall, Before Sunrise, Spinal Tap, Sunset Boulevard, Eternal Sunshine, anything Miyazaki, American Beauty, Almost Famous, Beginners, Withnail and I, you get the idea.

Oh and I love Twin Peaks, Transparent, My So Called Life, Freaks and Geeks, Brass Eye, Mighty Boosh, Peep Show, Buffy (YES I SAID IT), Six Feet Under, Rick and Morty, gahhhhh.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

wrote half a novel, decided it was shit, threw it out

left home

spent 5 figures on a Masters degree in Writing from London. HAHAHA

What I Can Share with Hosts

My outrageous breakfast burrito and fried rice skills. Pretty decent with a percolator as well. Many poems. And if you're lucky, I will regale you with all of my unfinished works of fiction, in which I use the word I without relent. The possibilities are endless.
