About Me

I was a Mathematics teacher in South Africa that loves to educate learners by means of personal experiences. When I travel I always learn new things that I can take back to my classroom.

I changed my career in 2017 and work now on super yachts in the Mediterranean, it was a great way to satisfy my need to travel, learn and experience more of this world we live in.

Now I am married to someone I met through Couchsurfing that shares the same passions. We are living in the Mont Blanc Valley surrounded by spectacular nature and mountains. Now I am a South African farm girl learning to make French cheese here.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I often travel alone and find it a bit awkward to meet people at random and strike up a conversation.
Locals know much more about the areas and can give one valuable insights.
I love hearing people's stories and like sharing in what makes them, them...
It makes traveling personal...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

CAMPING SOLITARY IN UNTAMED AFRICA

I woke up one Saturday morning before sunrise and decided that I cant waste the weekend.
In a dash I grabbed my tent, some add-most basic camping equipment and food.
I jumped in my car and drove off...

That night I ended up camping in the dried up Limpopo River, in a camp-sight that had one human guest only, ME.
I ended up not as brave as I though, as the laughter of hyena grew louder (maybe just in my head)... I jumped with my sleeping bad in to the safety of my car (and kinda prayed myself asleep again " Dear God please don't let them find amusement in my car tonight!!").

Afterwards I learnt that there was no border between the camp-sight and Botswana, where elephant, leopard, hyena, all animals roam freely and could make their way to my elegant little one man tent...

It was an exhilarating experience to me though, that I have the guts to just do things like that by myself impulsively...

What I Can Share with Hosts

A good meal or just a cup of coffee! ;-)

My experience of growing up on a farm with no electricity and how it developed a sense of creativity to get by...
