Hey I'm Mac! I’m a former Royal Engineer and Electrician who realised the world was far too big to stay in one place. After six years in the Army, I set off to see the world - that was 12 years ago now, and I still haven't been able to stop. I’ve lived in 6 countries and travelled to 79 so far. I’ve learned that the best part of travelling isn't the sights; it’s the people you meet and the stories shared over a beer.

One place everyone should visit at some point is...
Mostar, Bosnia. It was such a surprise. I'd love to go back.
Why I'm on Couchsurfing
I’m making a comeback to Couchsurfing after a 10-year hiatus. I feel I’m 'aging out' of the hostel scene, but I still crave that social vibe of meeting new people and exploring together. Couchsurfing feels like the perfect next step. On my first trip around the world, I didn't spend enough time with locals - something I regret now I'm older. I want the 'real' version of a city, to see what people makes a place tick and to prove that the world is much friendlier than we're told to believe.
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Crazy about cinema. From cult classics to obscure indies, I’m always game for a movie night. Music: Everything and anything - mostly. Maybe not electronic 😂 Books: I have a huge collection of books at home. I'm always buying new used books, far too many to read. Currently I'm reading Hyperspace by Michio Kaiko
What I Can Share With Hosts
Handyman Skills: Need a light fixture putting up, a socket replaced, or some shelves put up? Once an contractor always a contractor. I’m happy to earn my keep by fixing things around the house. I actually enjoy it. This is probably my strongest skill. Stories: From Army life to navigating nearly 80 countries, I’ve got plenty of tales (and photos) to share. Cooking: I enjoy cooking for people and have a few specialty dishes I’d love to cook for you. Breakfast and Dinner. Good Company: Whether it's finding the best local bars, catching a movie, or just grabbing coffee, I’m easy to get along with, I'm very respectful of personal space and true to my training I keep my area spotless.
