Divorced Dad of 3 kids (share custody with their mother) who loves learning about the world. In my spare time I fly for fun, work out (most recently with martial arts or racquetball), travel when I can, and spend time with friends.
Grew up in the Chicago area on a farm, but have lived in the suburbs most of my adult life, although I often wonder why because I'm not a fan of living in the cold all winter! Love the idea of traveling the world on a shoestring budget and seeing the real sights, so couchsurfing fascinates me.

I was a corporate pilot for 7 years and got to see a lot of the world. Favorite things include touring Beijing, Hong Kong, seeing the Northern Lights from the cockpit, watching killer whales in Victoria, BC, walking around London, flying (then Senator) B. Obama to the Virgin Islands, and flying Jimmy Buffet's crew for two weeks while on tour...
SCUBA diving in Hawaii and listening to the Humpback whales sing under the water, and going nose-to-nose with a sea turtle... ok, so that's more than one amazing thing...

Besides my home and food, I can let you know some of the better places (not all of them touristy) in Chicago and northern Illinois to see. Is there something in Chicago or the surrounding area you've been dying to see?..I'll do my best to make it happen. If I can't get you to the city myself I'll get you to public transportation or to someone that CAN get you around.
