Overview
About Me
Hi my name is avtar.( Like the film avatar but without the 'a' in the middle) I am 21 years old and a student. A bit shy and reserved but am loud when you get to know me. I try to make an effort in understanding other peoples cultures and try to gain as much knowledge as I can. An old man said to me 'knowledge is absolute treasure , 'absolute' meaning it will always remain there. Regardless of your respective materialistic condition'
My Philosophy: Live your life at the edge of chaos. Its where you will find the most satisfaction and meaning.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I thought it would be a great way of finding about other peoples cultures rather than going through the traditional route of tours with companies who overcharge and just send you to the typical places without you experiencing the actual culture, which in my opinion is experienced through people. Not sitting on a coach and being told facts :)
Interests
Its a hard question.I love reading books especially about history, politics, geopolitics, philosophy (existentialism) but I would not have survived without my music or my laptop. I spend a significant amount of time on reddit and looking at cat videos. still am in the process of finding what I like and what really interests me.

Music, Movies, and Books
What I normally listen to is Nirvana, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Peace , ACDC, Gorillaz, Bryan Adams (pretty much anything from the 80s ) I'm generally into indie rock and open to finding new bands. I do however listen to some french music stromae(Belgian but sings in French) and Indila.
My favourite film to date has to be 'Fight Club' not for its acting or for its action but the meaning, the philosophy of it. I am a die-hard star wars fan and have watched 'Lord of the Rings: Return of the King' 20 times ! In general the movies that I tend to watch are dramas. I like to be immersed in the films I watch and them to make me feel and think and search for a meaning. However I watch more television my favourite shows would be Breaking Bad , Walking Dead , Orange is the New Black ,Malcolm in the middle, The Thick of it, The killing , Sons of Anarchy, Sherlock and Doctor Who.
As for books I love anything that comes from the Late Kushwant Singh. Loved his 'Train to pakistan' and 'Dehli' and have read anything i can get by oscar wilde my favourite being 'picture of dorian grey' on the whole most of the time I read is Non-fiction. At the moment i'm reading into western philosophy specifically Nietzsche, which I'm finding it very Intriguing. I do like reading anything from Christopher hitchens, nial Ferguson, samuel Huntington, Sam Harris, Naom Chomsky. I like reading about European history specifically the late 19th century and the early 20th century of western Europe and the lead up to ww1.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Well by far it would be talking a guy out of killing himself at the train station. It was pretty overwhelming, he looked upset i asked him whether he was okay. He started crying and told me how and why he wanted to kill himself. Thank god there was a steward nearby to call for help. All I know is that he was sent to a hospital.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach Punjabi (a language originates from Northern India)and I can make some curries if you have a pressure cooker :) I also can I tie a turban if you want me you tie one on you. I try to keep an open mind. I want to learn and gain as much knowledge as I can and share.
Life is too short, it's the only opportunity you will have and I'm hell bent in trying to take advantage of the opportunity.
What I Can Share with Hosts
My knowledge about the world . Which certainly is limited but in my opinion knowledge is to be shared. I can tie them a turban If they want . I will try and share the limited knowledge I have about the world. As I believe that knowledge is to be shared.
