About Me

I'll be returning to Austin soon after a wonderful year back in Germany. Moving house with an ocean in between gets a bit exhausting, but I'm looking forward to being back in Bat City. Should be able to start hosting people there again around the beginning of September.
Okay, about myself? I'm a grad student in English language and linguistics, which is fun most times apart from having to hand in a dissertation at some point. I like playing soccer, riding my bike around town, swimming, exploring the many food trucks and bars around Austin, reading a good book, cooking and/or eating a good meal. In Austin I live in Nueces co-op and that is just an awesome living environment. Being from Germany originally, I am used to shared student housing but haven't ever quite experienced the co-op model.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've met some amazing people through CS and made lasting friendships. Surfed someone's couch in Cambodia for three weeks and that person is now one of my closest friends, hosted two awesome travelers who helped me build a loft in my co-op room (talk about lasting impressions), heard the craziest stories from everywhere between Estonia and South Africa.

Interests

I'm a big fan of the outdoors and have been trekking all across Europe. There is a student theatre company in Germany that I am quite involved in, so everything having to do with theatre can certainly be counted as an interest. I used to make rap music, but am finding it hard to make time for that these days. Still, there is the ocassional jam or recording session I will make it to about once a month. Apart from that, I have lots of ordinary hobbies like playing soccer, reading, chilling, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Jurassic 5, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Dilated Peoples, Aesop Rock, MF Doom, De La, and lots more (German rap, 70s funk music, I also enjoy country and singer/songwriter stuff)
Movies: One director I really enjoy is Jim Jarmusch; not a movie, but The Mighty Boosh (British comedy show) is possibly the best thing ever!
Books: Big fan of the fantasy genre (Tolkien, George R. R. Martin, Patrick Rothfuss, Joe Abercrombie, Steven Erikson), also lots of 20th centruy German literature

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A nine-week hiking trip across southeastern Europe with my best mate. Slovenia - Croatia - Hungary - Slovakia - Romania (by way of Hungary again) - Bulgaria. Best time of my life!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some German. Exchange recipes and definitely cook for you if you're hosting me. If ever you are planning a hiking trip anywhere in Europe, I might have valuable information for you.
One thing I'd really like to learn is rock climbing. Also always interested in learning about creative software. I know the very basics of Photoshop, various audio and film editing programs, but there is so much to still learn there.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I try to always have something nice from Germany with me when couchsurfing, like a bottle of Bavarian beer or some local chocolate. Definitely happy to cook for or with you if you are hosting me and help out with whatever else might require manpower.

Countries I’ve Visited
