Hi! I’m Balymai - a 24-year-old traveler and soul searcher from Kazakhstan. So far, I’ve explored 9 countries: Kyrgyzstan, China, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Oman, Jordan, India, and of course, my home - Kazakhstan. But for me, traveling is not just about places - it’s about people, stories, and meaning. I studied Information Systems but found myself deeply drawn to psychology and the human mind. I’m now preparing to pursue a Master’s degree in psychology. I’m fascinated by what shapes us, what connects us, and how we can live more consciously. I’d describe myself as introspective, curious, and warm-hearted. I love meaningful conversations, quiet nature, and books that make me reflect. I enjoy learning about different cultures, spiritual traditions, and ways of life. I believe that kindness, openness, and genuine connection matter more than anything. If we meet, I’d love to hear your story - and maybe share some of mine, too. If you’d like to stay in touch, you can find me on Instagram: balym [dot] ay

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
I’m on Couchsurfing because I believe that travel is most meaningful when we connect with people - not just places. I’m deeply interested in different cultures, perspectives, and stories. I think we all carry something unique and beautiful inside us, and Couchsurfing is a chance to share that. For me, it’s not about free accommodation - it’s about the exchange of kindness, trust, and understanding between strangers who might become lifelong friends. I hope to meet open-hearted people, learn from their experiences, and maybe inspire each other along the way.
Music, Movies, and Books
Books: I love books that make me pause and reflect. Some of my favorites are: - Man’s Search for Meaning (Viktor Frankl) - it changed how I see suffering and purpose - The Alchemist - a poetic reminder to follow your inner calling - Carl Jung’s writings, Rumi’s poetry, and anything about self-awareness and the human soul Movies: I enjoy films that go beyond entertainment - the ones that touch something deep inside. - I also like simple, quiet documentaries about life, people, and inner growth Music: Music helps me feel, process, and connect. I enjoy calm, soulful melodies - acoustic, Sufi-inspired, instrumental, and traditional music (especially Kazakh). I often play soft background music while journaling or walking in nature.
One Amazing Thing I've Done
One of the most amazing things I’ve done is taking a solo trip across several countries to reconnect with myself. It wasn’t just about the places - it was about healing, reflection, and learning to trust life and people again.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach: – Some basic Kazakh language and phrases – Things I’ve learned in psychology and self-awareness – How to reflect through journaling – Simple tech/digital help (from my IT background) I want to learn: – Different worldviews and belief systems – Local traditions and ways of living – New languages or expressions – How people find meaning in their lives I can share: – Travel stories from Central Asia – Cultural insights from Kazakhstan – A warm cup of tea and deep, heartfelt conversations
What I Can Share With Hosts
I may not carry much in my backpack, but I carry stories, curiosity, and an open heart. I’d love to share what I know about Kazakh culture, language, and maybe even cook a simple meal if we have time. I’m always happy to have deep conversations, exchange perspectives, or just sit quietly with a cup of tea. I can also help with anything digital or tech-related (I studied Information Systems!) More than anything, I offer presence, respect, and genuine interest in who you are.
