About Me

CURRENT MISSION

1) Improve this world as much as I can
2) Decode the nature of reality

ABOUT ME

I thirst for adventure, and pilgrim for truth.
I err on the side of optimism.
I prefer tickets and travel over toys.
I like my thoughts to reside outside the box.
I'm a minimalist.
I'm an innocent mischief.
I'm a down-to-earth dreamer.

PHILOSOPHY

- It all works out in the end.
- Positive thoughts induce positive results.
- Enjoy the ride.
- The people in your life should always be priority number one.

TRAVEL INTERESTS
Here's a rundown of what I tend to seek on my travels (btw, how is this not a dedicated section of its own on this site?):
- Scenery / natural beauty (even better when mixed with outdoor activity such as hiking, biking, kayaking, etc)
- Cultural Immersion
- retreat-like environs (with a focus on meditation, yoga, wellness, mindfulness...)
- Obscure, unique, unusual or off the beaten path sights/places (e.g.http://www.atlasobscura.com/)
- History & Culture
- Eco-tourism
- local flavor preferred over touristy options (though touristy options have their place too)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a long-time member that lived through and loved the glory days of this website. I've lost quite a bit of enthusiasm for CS though as it has transitioned to a for-profit enterprise and been diluted across the mainstream. I'm still on here though because I know there are still folks on here who embody the ol' couchsurfing spirit, and I would like to connect with them.

If you are interested in surfing at my pad, please have several positive references and also please let me know in your own words what it means to embody the couchsurfing spirit (else please don't expect a reply); if your definition aligns with mine, I'll be happy to host you.

Interests

pogs
yodeling
playing the mouth harp
tiddlywinks
monkeywalking
squirrelfighting
prison rules basketball
formula one tractor racing
hoverboarding

alright, seriously: I have an addiction to my Fender Strat electric guitar. I should be way better than I am given how long I've played (my problem is that I play instead of practice)
I'd rather read than watch TV, but I'm a big movie buff.
I play a mean game of chess, am a streaky pool player, and a veteran of various card games.
I'm always up for a pickup game, be it basketball, ultimate frisbee, softball, tennis, volleyball...
or any outdoor activity, be it mountain biking, snowboarding, rock climbing, snorkeling, kayaking.
I'm a man of a million hobbies, and always looking to pick up a new one.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies:
Everyone has that one movie that they can recite every line from. Ever since I can remember that movie has been Back To The Future.
My favorite genre of movies though is drama. I like abstract flicks that have a touch of indie flavor to them. A movie that makes you think is a good movie in my book. On the other side of the coin, I love laughing to absurd comedies. Some titles that come to mind are:

Inception
Memento
Crash
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Waking Life
Fight Club
Office Space
Harold and Kumar
Dumb and Dumber

Music:
the gamut of rock (alternative, indie, 90s, classic, folk), electronica (trip hop, downtempo, house, trance, some dubstep), and The Beatles (yes, they deserve their own genre)

My favorite modern bands right now are Walk off the Earth and Ok Go, not for their music as much as their overall creativity and brilliance - check out their music videos or live shows and you'll know what I mean. These are the kind of bands I dreamed of frontmanning ever since I picked up a guitar when I was a kid.

My favorite books were all the classics I read in high school from Catcher in the Rye to Crime & Punishment. Sadly, I've forgotten so much from them. In recent years, however, I've been into a lot of non-fiction. Some titles that come to mind:
The Power of Time Perception
The Untethered Soul
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
4 Hour Work Week
Into the Wild

Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind
