ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in Alaska, grew up playing lots of sports and doing outdoor activities, LOVE (hiking, camping, fishing, running, rafting, snowmachining and 4-wheeling). I went to college in Indiana and played soccer there, and am currently working on getting into Med School. Am doing the whole backpacking Europe thing and heard about this site, and am looking forward to meeting some fun, new people and diverse cultures! Can't wait to see you in AK!

PHILOSOPHY

You only got one life to live, live it. Don't stay isolated in the place you've grown up in, get out of your comfort zone and see the world...there's SO MUCH to see out there, and so many great people! Of course I feel like all of you outside of the U.S. have been everywhere and I think that's so amazing...in Europe you automatically know 2 languages, but more likely you know 3 or more and that is one of the most amazing gifts! I feel so fortunate to have been in the spanish immersion program up here (having spanish for 19 years), but there are so many people here that are missing out and just stay here forever! Traveling, and being able to speak with someone in their language is just beyond belief to me! You Europeans have something going there.. :)

Just joined, but have met some fabulous people on my travels!

Interests

Outdoor activities!!! (you have to love these if you live in Alaska, we basically hibernate all winter when it's dark and cold all the time, then party it up all summer and take advantage of the 22 hour sunlight! Hiking, fishing for halibut and salmon, float trips, camping, hunting (this year bear and moose but didn't get anything), frisbee golf, sneaking onto glaciers :), running (entering fun races), playing with my two absoltely ADORABLE nephews (3 and 1), drinking with friends, love dancing too! (Music totally has the ability to change you're mood - love it).

Also love almost all sports, played Division 1 soccer in college, but also play basketball and volleyball. Derek plays hockey and has many buddies who have gone big and are now playing in the NHL.

I absolutely LOVE traveling and meeting new people, I would do it 24/7 if I had the money! I'm hoping that once I become a doctor (hopefully), I can do "Doctors Without Borders" and travel around helping out...the least i can do right? Derek's a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Anyways, went on a Semester at Sea where we had classes on a ship and traveled around the world in 100 days, was so amazing, totally influenced my views and gave me a new state of mind, also made some FABULOUS friends that I still keep in touch with :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh jeez...way too many...I used to be a movie fiend (and now wish I could use my brain for more useful things rather than movie quotes) but now basically just watch whatever looks good that comes out, but I will never pay $10 to go see a new release. We have a place here that is amazing, called Bear Tooth Theatre and Pub, where you can order food and the BEST beer ever (it's also a brewery) and they'll deliver your food while you're watching the movie and drinking...and the movie only costs $3, it's the best idea ever! :) If you come to AK, you must go!

As for music, again, I love almost everything, just not loud screamy music...and books, love them as well. I mainly will just read ones that friends refer me to, and generally stick to bestsellers, but enjoy reading a good book for sure.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Went around the world in 100 days at 20mph :) Semester at Sea...skydiving and bungee-jumping in New Zealand, and great white shark diving in South Africa = AMAZING.

Teach, Learn, Share

Would love to play soccer! I do miss it...though it was more like a job in college, and not so much of an enjoyable thing like when I was young. As for learning, am always up for anything...it's always good to have skills as Napoleon Dynamite would say... :)
