About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Learning languages, reading books, cracking jokes, and fixing bikes
ABOUT ME
Software engineer, DIYer, skeptic, cyclist, occasionally abrasive, mildly sarcastic. Tells cool stories.
PHILOSOPHY
We're all going to die eventually one day. The only point in living is learning as much as you can and trying to make the world a better place, while enjoying yourself a little bit along the way. Otherwise, there's no point in living.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I don't. I made an account on this site years ago when I was a dumb 22 year old and lived in a housing co-op that was really a hippie commune. Anyways, we would accept couchsurfers and someone told me I should make an account. Then years later after completely forgetting about this account and never getting any emails from this site, someone I met at a rally added me as a friend here and I received an email, so I brought my profile up to date.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None. I've used Airbnb a couple times. As of 06/2016, I work 7 days a week and don't have the time to travel.
Interests
I'm an unapologetic heathen that lives a life based in reason, knowledge, and common sense, always striving to be better. Like all great people, I sometimes I can be a tactless jackass. Other times, I say something politically incorrect (because facts and reason can be politically correct these days).
Past all that, I ride bikes, fix broken electronics, do stuff with computers, try to live a happy life, and make it a little better for random strangers. You'd be amazed how much help a $1.39 bottle of cold water can be for a homeless guy begging outside McD's.

Music, Movies, and Books
http://last.fm/user/awildcolin
I read for education, knowledge, entertainment, so my book collection ranges from books like "50 Most Cited US Supreme Court Decisions" to "The Complete Book of Scales, Chords, Arpeggios and Cadences" to "The Fault in Our Stars" to the Harry Potter series to "Introduction to Quantitative EEG and Neurofeedback: Advanced Theory and Applications". Most of my paper books are in storage, but my current e-book library contains 76 books.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was hit by a taxi traveling approximately 40MPH while riding my bicycle in upstate New York during mid-February several years ago. It was snowing out, the taxi had blown a red light because he gunned it trying to beat a yellow light and couldn't stop, and I wasn't wearing a helmet.
I broke a single bone in my foot and spent a single night in the hospital. I suffered no other injuries.
