Help my organization raise money and awareness for the street children of the Philippines :)

ABOUT ME

I'm currently a senior majoring in psychology at the University of Michigan. My goal is to get into medical school, become a doctor and hopefully join Doctors Without Borders one day. Volunteering in Doctors Without Borders has been my dream for as long as I can remember. What they do is so admirable and they've helped so many people across the globe, and to be a part of that would just be amazing.

I've never really traveled much outside of the US, or given much thought to it, until a volunteer trip abroad last summer showed me how wonderful experiencing another culture can be. I've been obsessed with traveling ever since and I plan to do as much traveling now while I can.

I have sort of an obsession for food and am pretty adventurous when it comes to trying new things. As long as it's not alive and squirming on my plate, I'll give it a try.

I'm a very easy going and open-minded person. I believe that everyone is inherently good, and rarely will I get mad at anyone. You will have my benefit of the doubt unless you do something so completely outrageous, like kick a puppy or something (but really, who can even do that?). I love meeting new people and learning about their unique experiences. I love sharing my own unique experiences with others as well. Life is a long process of learning and sharing, and I feel that traveling is a great way to accomplish that.

PHILOSOPHY

Other than my obsessions for food and travel, I have a passion for humanitarian work as well. I spend a lot of my free time volunteering and organizing fundraising events for different causes. A cause that is very dear to me is the Dynamic Teen Company, and I really admire their efforts in providing education to the underprivileged children of the Philippines. I met them through a volunteering trip in the Philippines last summer and they are the most wonderful and self-less group of people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. People like them inspire me and remind me of how much good there is left in the world, and how much difference a person can make if only they would try. I will spend the rest of my life trying and hopefully I can change and inspire the lives of many the way they have.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd love to host others and be hosted. I'm hoping to meet new people and learn about different cultures through this experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Just started out so none yet! Hopefully you'll give me the chance to gain some experience :)
I have, however, been hosted by a friend in Malaysia during my Asia tour last summer and hosted a few friends while I was in Vietnam. It wasn't through CS, though.

Interests

I love reading, it consumes so many of my nights. It's probably one of my favorite ways to de-stress. You'll probably find me reading a new book every week or so.

I also enjoy baking in my spare time, and if you're lucky enough to live close to me, you'll most likely be enjoying baked goods every other week as I'm always trying out new recipes. If you are my host or guest, you will definitely be treated to some baked goodies :)

And then of course, there are the typical interests… music, traveling, food, meeting new people

I'm pretty terrible with keeping up with the current movies, music, and TV shows :/ Perhaps that's one of the many things I can learn from you :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- Held a 300 pound python (I could only lift it's head tho haha)
- Rode on a baby elephant
- Traveled alone
- Touched a shark (I was only 10, so it was pretty awesome at the time)
- Met and volunteered with the 2009 CNN Hero, Efren Penaflorida
- Found this wonderful CS community!
