About Me

CURRENT MISSION

learn, travel, be happy, in no particular order, or perhaps all three together

ABOUT ME

I *love* traveling. I have lived in the UK, Japan, and, of course (since I was born and raised), the US. I would like to learn a multitude of languages so that I could converse with the local people when I travel, but I'm not sure my language-learning aptitude will permit me to do that. I lived in Japan for three years and can only chat about basic stuff. Same goes for Spanish, though I only lived in Mexico for one summer, but I studied Spanish for two years. Ah, well. I like meeting new people and exploring new places.

I used to be more active on Couchsurfing, but after having my daughter in 2010, I am willing to show people around, but a bit less willing to host overnight stays.

PHILOSOPHY

Live life without regret.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Had a couple of people stay with me last minute. Also met up with a couple of people while traveling. It's been great so far.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I am a bit stuck in the 80s and 90s. New Kids on the Block! The Cure, Depeche Mode, that kind of stuff.

Movies: I like all movies, although not war movies so much.

Books: A couple of my favorite authors are Neil Gaiman and Nick Hornby, and then lots of writers that make many people cringe, like Aphra Behn, Spenser, and lots of dead white guys.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of my favorite experiences was traveling throughout Thailand, and one of my favorite memories from that trip was taking a cooking class and learning how to make about 5 or 6 local dishes.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, let's see... I have taught English as a foreign language in Japan, so there's that. I also teach English Composition and Literature, so I know how to teach people how to write well and think about texts. Exciting, huh? :) I knit, and can teach beginning knitting. I also love cooking and can teach someone how to cook some pretty awesome enchiladas.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, China, France, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Japan, United Kingdom, United States
