About Me

ABOUT ME

Chak from China! Well, I'm from Macau, which is officially part of China but has a high degree of autonomy (like Hong Kong, long story). Currently, I am studying medicine at Edinburgh University and will be graduating in 2019 if I manage to pass all my exams.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

First time I heard about couchsurfing was when I volunteered in Moldova. One of our local colleagues is a big fan and he introduced me to this whole new world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As a student, my travelling opportunities are rather limited by time and money. Nevertheless, I go away when I have the chance to and couchsurfing is an amazing way to meet people and learn about the cities. I have couchsurfed for a couple of times in Ireland, Romania and France. All the people I met were extremely friendly and interesting to talk to. I would very much like to host people but since I am sharing a flat with a few friends I have to make sure they are happy before I accept any guests.

Interests

I just like a bit of everything really. Again for me, it's more about the people than the actual activities. Playing violin in orchestras was a great way to make friends. I study medicine so I will chat a lot about my subject but I'm interested in pretty much everything.

Music, Movies, and Books

Can't think of anything in particular. Just anything amusing and clever really.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I made myself dinner the other day, it was great!

It is a bit hard to define amazing, right? I guess one of the things that I have done in uni was starting a volunteering scheme called MEET, where we brought 20 students from Edinburgh University to Macau and teach local high school students. Apart from general English, they also developed a project-based learning plan to give the students a taste of university life abroad. People seemed to have enjoyed the trip so it was pretty cool!

Teach, Learn, Share

We can chat about music, I'm classically trained but I do want to explore different styles. I can play the piano and violin (just like every Asian kid lol).

I can also share experience in studying medicine at Edinburgh University, there are quite some fun stories. Apart from that, I suppose I can talk about traveling as well. I've been to most of Asia and many European countries, it would be interesting to share some fascinating cultures in different countries.

Oh, also I can teach some basic Chinese as well, both Cantonese and Mandarin. It would be quite handy considering these people are appearing everywhere in the world.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Other than all the things mentioned above, I can do some cooking as well if time and circumstance permit. Cantonese food is amazing! Coming from Scotland, I might also try to share with you some Scottish traditional culture, dances, music, and maybe even whiskey!
