ABOUT ME

i love my work as a teacher in Project Management,in which my students and I plan social and multicultural projects, as also as scientist researching parasitic insects. In the 1980s I worked at the Vetrianary Research Institute Onderstepoort (South Africa) on biological control of black flies. After the birth of each of my 4 children I stayed at home for some years, to enable my wife Yvonne who is phatmacist to contonue her responsible job, which she couldn´t give up easily.

Now my children Albert (19), Michael (24), Christian (25) and Viktoria (29) still often stay with us or as in summer 2011 accompany me/us during the summer holidays. One of my hobbies is playing diatonic hamonica for my children dancing group.

My wife and me like hiking, riding bicycle adn outdoor life in general.
The belief that animals have the same feelings and also the same right to life as we do has led me to be a vegetarian.

PHILOSOPHY

I would like to learn new things every day, but also to share my experiences with others. I try to live without doing too much harm to the environment and to give an example to others to do so.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been SERVAS host and traveller for decades (since 1974). This is a similar organisation trying to spread peace by creating contacts between people of different nationalities. So I want to try to support couchsurfing in the same way by hosting travellers and also to get to know new freinds by travelling. Since 2011 CS host and traveller

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Till now only excellent experiences travelling in England, Germany and Italy. My children who made nice CS acquaintances by travelling through the USA.
My SERVASs Experiences in Africa and Europe were all very good and interesting. In New Zealand we stayed with cattle and sheep farmers, I never will forget how I helped to push the "cows hit" from the concrete milking place. In Australia we heard interesting stories from a stockman, who had worked in the Kimberley plains in Northern Australia, where farms have got up to 100 000 cattle.

Metropolis is my favourite, I love especially French and italian Movies (Truffaut, Fellini, Visconti, Irish dances, standard dances, many kinds of literature.

Met very nice people in Albania travelling by train through that amazing country.
Gone by bicycle from Austria to the Adriatic Sea on a new trail (Ciclovia transalpina) along a former railway line ("Pontebbana") in summer 2013.
