About Me

I've lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado USA for almost 12 years now, after being born and raised in Paris. I miss the food, the language, the everything really from France, so I visit as often as I can. I've been married to my husband Nate for almost a year and half now - he works in his office from home, and I knit things to sell on my Etsy shop and occasionally get contracted to work backstage at a local theater.

I like to eat good food and drink good tea, and I love to travel. I've been striving to be more intentionally kind and loving to other people and along with that I love to meet and make connections with all sorts of interesting people.

Currently I'm unable to host, but still hope to meet people and make new friendships.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've never yet used couchsurfing, but I love to travel so I hope it will prove helpful and interesting. Hopefully some day I will have a space where I can receive people, too.

Interests

Tea is one of my greatest passions. I just love the smell, taste, the variety that's available, and the ritual of making tea for myself and others. Sharing good tea and knowledge of how to brew it well is something I love to do more than most things. Curling up with a cup of tea and a friend, a book, or a movie is a lovely calming practice.
I took up knitting a little over a year ago and kind of went nuts with it. I find it so rewarding, you put in the time and then you have this physical item as proof of your work. I knit a lot, both for my shop and for myself or friends, during which I'll listen to a LOT of podcasts of all different kinds - comedy, educational, NPR, interviews, spiritual, philosophical, fictional, etc... if you need any recommendations there, I've got you more than covered. I also listen to a lot of audiobooks, it helps me be able to "read" more than I'd be able to otherwise, either while I'm knitting or while cleaning, etc.
I casually play video games from time to time, mostly JRPGs, but occasionally I'll play Smash Ultimate or Mario Kart with my husband.
I've always loved to sing, and have studied music from a very young age, although I'm out of practice these days. We have a piano now, and I'd like to learn to play it properly.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love film, reading, podcasts, you name it - and I love to talk about these things! My favorite director currently is probably Martin Scorsese (predictable, I know), favorite author Marilynne Robinson, favorite podcast The Adventure Zone or Levar Burton Reads.

I grew up reading a lot of fantasy (e.g. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, many of Diana Wynne Jones' books) and I still have a special place in my heart for that genre, even though my tastes have broadened a bit since then. I'm currently making my way through as many classic literature pieces that I never read in school as I can. The most recent ones I've finished are: War & Peace, War of the Worlds, Lord of the Flies, Crime & Punishment, and I'm about halfway through the Divine Comedy. I also read a fair amount of non-fiction, be it biographies or spiritual/philosophical type books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've travelled a lot - 12 different countries, I believe. One of the most amazing (and different) experiences I had was in rural Swaziland in 2012. You hear about that kind of poverty, and because of that I knew what to expect, but somehow it still changes you when you actually see it and experience it for yourself. It's hard-hitting.

Teach, Learn, Share

I guess, just always remember that other people are as complex as you view yourself - your interaction with them is based more on how their day has been than how they view you, even. When you remember that others think just as deeply and broadly as you, it helps so much in minimizing conflict and in understand and being kind to others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My knowledge of tea and knitting, and the option to practice either your English or your French, if you like!
