About Me

CURRENT MISSION

First up: Right Knowledge.

ABOUT ME

One of my project manager friends told me I was the second smartest person she knew, with the first being Clay Shirkey. I now have to hunt him down and make him take stupid pills. People like my sense of humor, my conversation, and my trivia.

Other adjectives: Gay, naturalist/atheist, vegetarian, smartypants

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm brand new: a total noob.

Interests

I like big bowls, nuance, Neil Finn, and self-reference. I like presents that are homemade and nomothetic. I write senryu on planes. I think people are interesting, good, and probably doomed in the long run. I believe in virtue and that human dreams of flight are species memories of water. I make my bed, but I also make it easy to make my bed.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I had a friend once describe my music taste as "indie singer songwriters" and I think that covers it pretty well. Neil Finn, Andrew Bird, Beirut, Broken Social Scene, Of Montreal, Iron & Wine, Wilco, Bon Iver, and Rufus Wainwright get a lot of play. LCD Soundsystem has rocked my ossicles of late. Don't get me wrong, as I also have a soft spot for smart country, accessible classical, underproduced pop, and the occasional bootie-shaking dance number, but it's not the majority of any playlists.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have walked the shifting surface of a live volcano: White Island off the coast of New Zealand. You had to suck candy to keep the acid from burning your throat. I have swam underneath the San Francisco Bay Bridge in a fog so thick I wasn't sure where which direction I was headed. I cut the shit out of my toe shortly thereafter. I have jumped on Italian lands that bounced like a trampoline and made the trees around me sway.
