About Me

Hi! My name is Christiana, most people call me Chrissy. I am a Paramedic in La Crosse, WI and moved here within the last year (2015). I love adventures and know there are plenty to go on in and around La Crosse, with the many trails for hiking or biking the Bluffs, beaches near the lakes and rivers, and many other outdoor activities that I am looking forward to doing myself and hosting others so they may enjoy them as well!

I love to travel, having been to Kenya, East Africa and Istanbul, Turkey during a month-long mission trip; I traveled to Houston, TX and had a Paramedic Internship there for about a month and a half; and I have traveled to and through many other states within the U.S.

Along with adventure, I love art, writing, athletics, conversation, meeting new people and learning/doing new things, and I believe that Jesus Christ has given me the gift of life and salvation which should be shared with everyone. "Dream as if you will live forever; Live as though you will die tomorrow."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I like to travel and meet new people, this website seems like the perfect combination of learning new cultures and making new friends, both by hosting couch surfers and by being a couch surfer myself. I have had a few friends who have both hosted and surfed in the U.S. and other parts of the world, and it sounds like a unique, undeniable experience for adventure and learning opportunities.

Interests

Outdoor activities (camping, fishing, kayaking, hiking, biking, running, roller blading, etc.), athletics (playing catch with a football or baseball, playing volleyball, soccer, figure skating, softball, etc.), art (sketching/drawing, painting, crafts), writing, occasional reading, skydiving, adventures, and new experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy most music, but my favorite genres are probably 80's music (Journey and others), and groups like Mumford and Sons (folk). I enjoy some-most country, but really enjoy the oldies (Johnny Cash), and I enjoy a variety of music after that.

I don't watch a lot of TV, so not many movies either, but I enjoy sports movies, war movies, and movies and shows where you have to put the pieces of the puzzle together (House, Criminal Minds).

I don't read enough books as I should, but I denote that to my distastefully slow ability to read; Some books I have enjoyed include Population 485 by Michael Perry, different books by Jodi Picoult, 10 Keys to Wellness by Michael Ellison, and a mixture of other fiction and non-fiction books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Oh, probably visit Kisii. That was an unforgettable experience, having the ability to live in the village with a host family, make traditional Kisii dishes with our host mother, use squat pots and bathe with buckets, help with farm animals, hand-wash clothes the Kenyan way, but most of all learn from the young children I was supposed to be teaching at the school we went to every day for two weeks. They had a joy unlike anything I had ever seen before, and their voices rang loudly and beautifully in my ears as they sang praises to God. All in the midst of obvious poverty and tragedy--true beauty.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach--How to make some of my favorite traditional home-made dishes, how to make a traditional Kisii dish even, possibly how to juggle, CPR/First Aid and maybe allow you to peak slightly into the mind of a Paramedic, if you so dare.

Learn--I would love to learn about YOU, your culture (whether that be Milwaukee or Australia), learn traditional foods from where you come from, and other skills and insights you have on life.

Share--I would like to share my home with you, tour the city--hike the Bluffs, go to the river side, take you to the popular ice cream shops and crafty wine and painting places, visit historical areas and other unique features of La Crosse, and/or anything else you may want to experience while you are here.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share a curiosity and desire to learn from you and your culture, a tidy/helpful guest; I will do odds and ends projects around your home if you want/need it. I can bring and leave some traditional items from my home town as well and teach you different things about my culture/area of the world. I have a heart for adventure and an energy to learn and do, and I can share with you my life, job, and faith, if you wish to inquire.
