About Me
CURRENT MISSION
After some time in SE Asia, traveling around lots of the United States, a few months in Central America, and several months in South Africa, it's time to check out Australia. Never a dull moment!
ABOUT ME
I'm older than most of the travellers I meet. I wasted my youth on a job/career and the chase of the "American Dream." :-)
September 2014 I made a significant change to my life: I gave away almost everything I owned and proceeded to travel while telecommuting for my job. At the end of January 2015, the job and I parted ways. Now I'm using my savings to travel as much of the world as I can before I eventually get a new job.
My friends would tell you I'm very independent, generous, brutally honest, and I talk to strangers. I haven't met a food I wouldn't at least try, I like pets but don't have any of my own, and my favorite phrase is, "It seemed like a good idea at the time."
2015 I traveled Central America and the USA.
2016 was my first visit to SE Asia and I hope it won't be my last.
2017 included more USA road-tripping and a return to Guatemala before a brief stop in Belize.
I fell in love with South Africa in 2018 but, I'm not yet ready to settle in one place.
The next adventure begins this December in Melbourne, Australia.
PHILOSOPHY
I treat people well and like to have fun. I make a conscious effort to be more positive and to be around positive people and experiences.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
A bartender in an airport on my way to Spain in 2011 told me about this site and I thought it would be fun.
When I had a house in Sacramento, I hosted many surfers. Now, I've decided to travel and am hoping to experience couchsurfing from this side.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I hosted several people in Midtown Sacramento and had a great time. I have also stayed with a host in Las Vegas and really enjoyed getting to know her.
Interests
I like kayaking, hiking, wine & beer tasting, and traveling.
I'm a member of an international drinking club with a running problem, called the Hash House Harriers, and I've been to a few cool places while traveling with them.
I love to just walk / wander around a place once I get there. I can spend all day without a destination and love every minute.
I also like to try some of the more touristy things, especially if I meet someone who'd like to join.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like action and fantasy movies and an occasional chick-flick.
I love almost all music but mostly listen to rock/pop.
I mostly read fiction - love "who done it" type books and scary stuff like Stephen King.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I'm pretty easily impressed by the world around me so I can't really pick. I absolutely loved Costa Rica because every place was so different from the one I visited the previous day.
Watching the sunset off the coast of Waikiki from a sailboat loaded full of friends is one of my favorite memories.
Standing on the field at the ABQ International Balloon Fiesta while hundreds of hot air balloons launch was amazing.
I have tons of small memories rather than moments of awe. I'd love to swap stories.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share stories over a beer or wine. I like to cook but nothing fancy; just the simple joy of cooking a meal for myself and friends.
I'm good with pets and take care of my surroundings.
