About Me

I'm just here to find my way in and around the world. I would love it if you tagged along!!

According to people who know me, I am a very kind, enthusiastic, and eccentric person who loves just about everything and everyone. I would say that's mostly accurate. ;)

I'm passionate about a lot of things, but I think helping people brings out the best in me. I'm quite easily entertained, and not very easily irritated. Just be nice and share something with me -- particularly food or a cheesy pun joke -- and I'll treat you like you're the best person I've ever come across, I promise.

This world is in serious lack of empathy and needs things like Couchsurfing around. If everyone in this world tried Couchsurfing just once in their lifetime, I truly believe this world would look very different. We need to start trusting people again, because that's the only real way to bring about peace. Call me crazy, if you would, but I stand by my statement. So continue to spread the love, fellow Couchsurfing friends! <3

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting people any chance I get, and traveling is a special way to do that. While traveling, I am always so drawn to observing the differences between our cultures, but even more than that, I rather like finding our similarities. I think that's my favorite part about traveling: continuously being reminded that we're actually much more similar than we are different.

I thoroughly enjoy learning new things about other cultures, particularly languages. I tend to ask a lot of questions, because I get very curious and excited about learning, even about trivial things. I like to have nice talks with open-minded people who respect others' points of view, and I don't pretend (nor do I feel the need) to know everything. I wish people placed less emphasis on someone's intelligence and more emphasis on someone's desire to learn. We all learn in different ways and not always at the same times during our lifetime, so let's not be so quick to write someone off just because they do or say something differently than you do. A little understanding goes a long way!

Interests

I'm interested in pretty much anything, especially the Humanities, because we humans are very intriguing. Some of my favorite subjects are Sociology, Geography, and Art History. I can't get enough of animals, especially the baby fluffy ones. *squeal* I eat every food imaginable, because let's face it, food is the absolute best. P.S. Pickles are my favorite thing ever! So if you ever give me one, I will cherish you forever.

I really enjoy staying indoors with a nice movie or a board game among good company, but I love being outdoors too, whether that be for a family bbq or with friends getting together to play a friendly match of soccer (football). I honestly don't get outdoors as much as I used to as a kid, unless I'm traveling, so it's always great to meet people who not only appreciate the great outdoors while abroad but in their everyday lifestyle. They motivate me to get back outdoors, reminding me to not take what I have for granted, including nature. And it really challenges me to find beauty in even the most ordinary of things and places.

Music, Movies, and Books

¡¡¡Geek Alert!!! Harry Potter, Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire), Sherlock, The Walking Dead, and Star Wars are some of my favorites. If this is not your kind of thing, rest assured, I can pretty much watch anything.

I like way too many movies, but some random favorites I can think of right now if you're really curious are: Forrest Gump, Love Actually, Inglorious Basterds, American Beauty, etc. I used to collect all sorts of things when I was a kid, but now I just collect movies. Sooo if you have any recommendations, I'm all ears. I'm particularly looking for more foreign films to add to my collection. Thanks!

I'm quite the slow reader, and I didn't really read when I was younger, but I'm reading now (and thank goodness for that haha)! I recently finished The Hobbit, and am now reading A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I would like to read the LOtR trilogy next.

I'm not very great with knowing who sings what song, sorry, but I can appreciate all types of music. My favorite bands/musicians tend to be in the genres of Alternative Rock, Indie, and folksy stuff. And thanks to my parents, I very much still enjoy the Oldies.

I have always enjoyed the Fine Arts, too. In high school and at university, I didn't get much of a chance to demonstrate my "skills." Fortunately for me, I've recently returned to those younger years when making art was cool and spontaneous, and not so widely criticized. I'm currently taking 3 adult art classes -- drawing, painting, and watercoloring. My works are usually a hit-or-miss, but I'm having fun and that's all I can really ask for; though, I admit, it's super rewarding if it's aesthetically pleasing, too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was the project leader for a sustainable development project helping widows start a fruit tree business in Cameroon, Africa one summer. It wasn't exactly successful, but it was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Feel free to ask about it if you're interested in learning more.

Teach, Learn, Share

This is pretty much every answer I have ever given to the common ice breaker question we have all heard before: "Tell us something interesting about yourself." Well, here you go!
-I'm a twin (older by 2 min.)
-I'm left-handed
-I cannot swim - haha!
-I've met Johnny Depp before, and you should ask me all about it. Seriously. :)

Now, it's your turn!!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Currently, I cannot host anyone, as I'm teaching English abroad in France. HOWEVER, don't worry, because I'm very eager to host people back home in Dallas, Texas once I return. So be on the lookout!!!
