One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of the crazier things I did was shoot a RPG while I was in Phnom Penh, the shooting of the RPG wasn't that crazy but getting there certainly was. Starting at he beginning I hopped into a tuk-tuk and my guest house host told them what I wanted to do and so began the 45 min drive to the out skirts of the city. On the way out the roads when from paved, to patchily paved, to dirt, I passed multiple factories where I can only assume the thousands of workers were all way underpaid who then piled into the backs of trucks and into buses, farmers with there cattle darted across the road at one point a truck ran into one of the cows and killed it then people buzzed by on there scooters with crates of chickens piled high or 5 people on 1 scooter. Once we made it past all that we pull of the main road onto an even more remote dirt road where there happened to be a random go-kart track right next to the military base. The driver pulled op to the gate (which was just a small chain across the road) said something to the guard and we were in, the next bit was pretty straight forward we pulled up to a building with all the guns and grenades you could pay to shoot or throw I told them what I wanted we haggled over the price and settled on 150 bucks, which in Cambodia is a lot. Next they have me and my driver get into another car with 2 soldiers and then they proceed to drive me another 40-50 mins out into the middle of nowhere, at this point I was getting a bit nervous. We finally get to the spot where I was going to shoo the rig and as we pull up I see 3 more military guys with the RPG and a M60 the gun from Rambo First Blood, for the next few minuets everything went as I expected I got to shoot the RPG and it was awesome but after I fired it and started heading back to the car to leave I was informed I had to pay another 100 to shoot the machine gun, now normally I would have argued and at least tried to talk them down but I didn't think I was really in any position to do that since I was about 1.5 hours form the city with5 Cambodian military men so i paid the 100 shoot the machine gun and then we headed beck to the military base. Oh and after they squeezed an extra 100 outta me they tried to sell me a live chicken that I could have shot with the machine gun. Once we got back to the base I could see our driver pay a little of the money I had given them to every person and guard we passed. Needless to say it was one hell of a adventure I left the guesthouse around 1 in the afternoon and didn't get back until 7 spent way more than I planned and got one of the best stories of my life out of it.
