About Me

My wife, Katie, and I love to travel. Katie often jokes that she only works so that we can travel (it's true though). We have gone to something like 5 countries and 10 US states together since we've been married. She's a speech therapist, and I'm working at a non-profit as a project manager.

We just had a baby in early 2017, and are in the process of convincing her that travelling is fun. So far, she's flown with us to Oregon, Washington, and North Carolina, and we hope to take her many more places.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When I visit somewhere, I like to see what life is like in that country, so I try to stay away from tourist on rails type vacations. Couchsurfing is a perfect way to meet people and explore just a little bit like I actually lived in that place.

Interests

I love to explore. In cities, I like to see new neighborhoods and climb to the top of the tallest building and look over the city. I expecially like cool cities with great architechture and interesting people (I'm looking at you San Francisco!). In the mountains, sometime I see a peak or a rock and decide that I need to be on top of it, so off I go on an adventure to climb to the top somehow. New food? Sure, I'll try that. Sometimes it's not so good, but that thing is going on my tongue.

Sailing. I love sailing. I went for the first time in early 2013, and I've loved it ever since.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I went sailing with my parents and a family friend with a boat. It was the first time I had ever gone. The trip left me awestruck. That trip isn't the real story though. The real story is the Valejo Pirate Festival. Soon after my first sailing trip, I posted a picture on facebook, of course. A friend of mine commented he sails quite a bit and the people he sails with need more crew to be pirates at a pirate festival on the pirate ship. Now, this is not something I normally would go to. Had my friend invited me to go to the pirate festival, I would likely have said something like, "Oh, man, that sounds fun, but, I think I'm gonna be busy that day. My grandma's sick." The difference was, sailing was involved, so I said, "Oh man, that sounds fun. What's a pirate festival?" Long story short, I shot black powder blanks cannons on an incredible, hand built, 72 foot schooner, wearing a pirate hat and real sword while crowds of children and adults dressed like pirates cheered us on (or boo'd us in some cases. We WERE pirates). It was an incredible experience that was quite far out of the realm of what I thought I would do in my life.
