Space geek, techie, writer, photographer, husband, dad, etc. I moved 5,000 miles in March, 2016, and couchsurfed several places while figuring out where to settle my family.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After living and working in Hawaii for 16 years, I headed back east to my ancestral stomping grounds, a few states from where I grew up, for a new job in Massachusetts. I wanted to get to know the area and visit numerous different towns, so I stayed several different places, until my lovely wife and little ones arrived a few weeks later.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lots of different music. My iTunes library is probably mostly rock, but ranges from a Ugandan pop/gospel girl-group to Chinese prog to Israeli death-metal to... eh, you get the idea. I listen to other people's music in cars, because I can tolerate 90% of what they have, while they haven't even heard of 90% of mine.
I don't watch all that many movies, and I read so much online that I don't get to many books these days.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess working for a dozen years on Maunakea - probably the top astronomical observatory complex in the world - might count.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've done a lot of public outreach around astronomy, and can teach people (if they're at least, say, 4 years old) how to work simple telescopes and things like that. I've also traveled a moderate number of places around the world in the course of covering meetings on a variety of sustainability topics - oceans, forests, biodiversity, clean/renewable energy, environmental law, development finance, and the like.
