About Me

Hi, my name is Danny!

I’m from Duluth, Minnesota, USA. Currently living in Minneapolis, MN working as an artist.

I’ve traveled a bit. I lived in New Zealand for 11 months living out of a backpack, hiking mountains and volunteering on farms on both islands. Two months ago I did volunteer work in Puerto Rico for a week on a farm. The highest I’ve hiked is 14,278ft, or 4351.934 meters which was Grays Peak in CO, USA.

I am a freelance artist and designer. I have a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts Illustration from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and I’m mostly self employed. Im currently opening a silk screen printing company in Minneapolis, MN. I do hold a part time job at a local gym in Minneapolis, so I get to stay active and train regularly. I enjoy the outdoors immensely, and have been on quite a few wild adventures

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m headed to Iceland in mid July as part of an art residency program offered through a local gallery called Light Grey Art Lab ( http://lightgreyartlab.com/lgal-residency-about/ ) based out of Minneapolis, MN USA.

I’m hitchhiking my way north to rendezvous with the rest of the group attending the residency, and need to spend a few nights to buy supplies before heading out of town.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I will listen to anything except for country music. Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash I will permit haha

Movies: I love survival movies, like Everest, or classic gangster movies, like Scarface. Huge fan of anything by Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Sunshine, Trainspotting). Not a big fan of romantic movies, or horror movies.

Books: anything by Wilbur Smith! I read 23 of his books while traveling across New Zealand, and brought a lot of them home.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swam with Hector dolphins in Porpoise Bay located in the South Island of New Zealand. Had to tread water for about 25-30 minutes in VERY cold ocean water until two pods of dolphins swam up to me, within touching distance! Was so excited I didn’t realize how cold I had become, and the current had pushed me a fair distance away from the shore. That was a tough swim in.

Teach, Learn, Share

I’m an artist. I’ve been painting and drawing since I was old enough to walk.

I’m good with my hands, and I don’t mind physical labor, so, Ive shared my knowledge and experience through philanthropy in both New Zealand and Puerto Rico.

Knowledge is power, health is wealth and you are what you eat!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My artistic eyes, my drawings from my sketchbooks, my life experiences and and my wild stories. I’m also a pretty decent cook.
