HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING We host frequently and are guests occasionally. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE I have had awesome couch surfing experiences as a surfer in Berkeley California, Southern France, and Geneva Switzerland with my son Nico. I have been a solo guest a few times. We have been fortunate to be able to host many couchsurfers over the past few years. We were couch surfers without the internet!!! When I was in my early 20s my brother and I went to Europe. We stayed in London, Paris, and Belgium with friends' of friends'. It was a great experience. In Paris we called up a friend of a friend my brother had met at a party in Albuquerque New Mexico. She had said, "If you are ever in Paris....." The parts of that trip when we stayed with these people were the best! We also camped and stayed in hotels, but when hosted by the people we didn't know the trip became a much richer experience. Almost 30 years later, last month, I stayed a night in New York with our host from Belgium. It was like seeing a life long friend!
