Overview
About Me
Grad student in urban planning.
I work primarily in development/urban planning/transportation/civil rights sort of intersections.
Activism in labour rights, refugee support and anti-occupation. (May you live in interesting times, as they say.)
Virtually no longer read for pleasure because grad school will kill that, but I used to love science fiction, witty comedies and cooking spicy food. I also like hitchhiking, knitting funny hats and exploring hidden corners of cities.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Have surfed some and have hosted some and overall it's been all good.
I've generally met a lot of people, and have gotten a lot of useful advice and perspectives.
I can also be found on BeWelcome and Trustroots these days, as Datepalm.
Interests
Travel (well, rather,) reading, writing, science fiction and fantasy, feminism, labour rights, marxism, urbanism and urban planning, environmentalism, economic development, hitchhiking, dumpster diving...and trying not to be a complete head-in-the-clouds cliche of a hippie with all that as a list of interests. Yeesh.

Music, Movies, and Books
I read a lot. I read mostly Science Fiction and Fantasy, because I like the totality of the conception genre writing allows authors. (Also, spaceships. I like spaceships.)
http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/4748847-tamara - Goodreads basically tells you way more about me than anything else I can think of.
In non-fiction I mostly read history, whatever might strike my fancy at the time. I'm always interested in Middle Eastern History though.
My musical tastes are fickle and ever changing, but Leonard Cohen and Ehud Banai have remained staples.
I don't watch many movies, to be honest - its one of those things i'm always planning to remedy.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can knit you a hat, organize you a protest or teach you how to hitchhike and some day i'll finish writing that novel already.
