*2010: I'm an American who got bored and set out to find adventure by teaching English overseas for "1, maybe 2 years." Sixteen years and four continents later, I have an incredi:bly restricted/boring but equally incredibly rewarding life living on a compound and teaching at the American University of Afghanistan. *Update 2017: After 8 yrs in Afghanistan, I've finally moved on to the wonderful country of Tanzania. Africa really is great. *Update 2020: I've moved back to the US for a while to do an internship. I don't really know what to list my location as because it's short term, but I'm unfortunately not able to host. *Update 2022: I'm a K-12 school principal in a small bush village in southeast Alaska. I love it here, but it's every bit as foreign and primitive as most of the non-American places I've lived. *Update 2025: I'm in Bethel now as the principal of the high school. It's much more "normal" than anywhere else I've lived, but I enjoy the school and admit to appreciating the easier life for a bit. I'm what I consider a friendly introvert, meaning I'm happy and comfortable talking to anyone, but am on the quiet side. I'm perfectly happy traveling alone, but welcome company as well. I'm a vegetarian (but certainly don't care if other people eat meat), non-drinker (not bothered if other people drink, either, as long as I don't have to be around them if they're drunk) non-smoker (don't really care if other people smoke, either, but prefer not being too close.)

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
I usually stay at youth hostels/backpackers because they're more social, but couch surfing is a good alternative for meeting people.
Music, Movies, and Books
Books - Science Fiction/fantasy mostly, although there are some amazing YA books out there, too. I have an English degree and have read all the classics, too. Movies - Pretty much the same preferences as in books. Music - Isn't a big deal to me.
One Amazing Thing I've Done
Volunteered at a rural community development project in Malawi Not really amazing, but at last count, I've been to around 60 countries on every continent except South America (just because I haven't gotten there yet.) Too many to try to list in the "countries I've been to" list below.
What I Can Share With Hosts
