About Me

Hi there. I am Costa Rican trying to enjoy life, which may sound weird when you read that I studied economics accounting. Well, it is a chill-out profession, which allows me plenty of free time to enjoy the things I actually like: books, movies and travelling. I am a bookaholic: I finish a book per week on average. I don't have a preference about a particular genre: I like poetry, novels, short-story, non-fiction, classics, modern lit, etc. As long as I feel it is something that will help me expand my horizons, I will read it. I also love watching movies, a passion I shared with my wife. We go to the movies multiple times a week. We love classics and indie movies.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love travelling and meeting people from other culteres. Most of the time I will do it with my wife, but every now and then I travel by myself due to my work. Normally when this happens, I try to take advantage of this and expend a couple of extra days wherever I am visiting, so I can get to experience the local culture. In my opinion, the best way to do this is with the locals. So that is why I am here.

Music, Movies, and Books

You do not ask for a favorite book or movie to someone that loves books and movies. The list would be too long to input it here. Maybe I can tell you what I am reading right now, which would represent my favorite thing as of right now: I am reading a collection of the newspaper articles published by Guatemalan Nobel Prize winner Miguel Angel Asturias while he was living in Paris. I am also reading a book with 100 short stories from Brasilian XX century authors (I am trying to practice my Portuguese, so that is my way to do it).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in college (I went to college in Arkansas, USA), during my freshman year, I went out with this college group that organized outdoors camping. I was maybe two months into college, so I was still learning how things worked around. You can imagine, right? A 18-year-old Costa Rican in the middle of the American South with a bunch of upper classmates. Well, at night, while sitting by the firepit, one of the guys said that he can walk on fire. And he did it. Then another guy said the same, and he also did it. I was pretty amused, so I asked them what the hell was the secret. They said that it was pretty much take quick steps, so that the heat would not hurt you. So 18-year-old, naive me did what my little head told me to do: walk over the freaking pit. It did hurt, LOL. For a couple of weeks. Only later, did I found out that the guys were pretty high. I don't think I will repeat the feat, but I do not know many people who have done it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Not sure what is supposed to go here.

A bunch of random stories about growing up in the Costa Rican countryside, about going to school in Arkansas, about working and living in the Costa Rican capital.
Some Portuguese or Spanish lessons.
A good discussion about books or movies
I forgot to mention, I also like cooking a lot, so if we are able to get the right ingredients, I could cook some Costa Rican meals.
