About Me

I'm basically just your average nerd trying to make it in the tech industry.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am a 28 year old woman who has, somewhat haphazardly, attempted to have a career in the tech world for the past decade because of my passion and love for the industry despite not having a college degree. Considering that Seattle has a well-established university culture and tech industry, you can imagine the struggles that I've had since arriving here 6 months ago (that comes with another long story for another time). I am currently staying at a friend's place, though he wants me to move out by the start of July so that him and his girlfriend can take over the place and live in it without having a third wheel... though untimely, this request makes complete sense to me.

In the past 6 months I had a short stint doing Game Testing for Microsoft that started as nearly full-time work to pretty much no-time work within all of a few days after I confronted the third party contractor I was signed with about hours they didn't want to pay me for--a battle I (sort of) ended up winning in the long run. While I only technically got about $20 out of it, the fact that I stuck it to the man feels right. I feel like that alone should make you like me at least a little.

Shortly thereafter, I found what seemed to be a better work environment with Nintendo providing technical support for customers. It was pretty great at first until Nintendo decided that they hired way too many people and downsized the vast majority of their customer support population at our site. If you didn't already guess, I was one of those people whom they randomly selected.

Now, before you click the Back button in fear of having an unemployed deadbeat roommate, I was just offered a new Game Testing position from a different company called Pole to Win where it sounds like I'm going to be given pretty regular shifts, so I am not without work. I'm also in the process of selling quite a bit of my gaming stuff to ensure that I have a little bit of money for the next place I stay at so that I can offer something. I promise that I'm not asking for charity.
