About Me

I like peace and quiet gardening, playing music, cooking food. I'm calm and collected, kind of a melancholic but down-to-earth philosopher. Also known as a repairman, musical instrument maker, inventor, funny guy. I don't usually drink much alcohol, but as any Belgian, I'm proud of our numerous unique beers.

We must all seriously reconsider making it a habit to keep buying standard stuff that breaks all the time. I want to offer resistance to the decline of quality products, by finding richness in a few good-old ever-lasting repairable tools. I like woodworking according to traditional methods. Contrary to the wood industry, which still has the practice of exhausting reserves, making trees grow faster and faster, and dwindling away the ecological diversity, working by hand offers you a better understanding, for example, in for how many years the tree must have grown.

As a GNU-linux user, I like to explain my vigorous opposition to the monolithic extravagance of our time. Companies should not take away essential freedoms for consumers. Also see https://fsfe.org

I recommend the Arch Linux distro.

So yes, I'm abhorrent of the economic structure, and concepts that appear to be advocated by the extreme capitalism we know today. Only if I can't avoid it, I support non-local farming or non-free softwares. I love re-using packaging and I keep off anything that is clearly made in foul means of production and employment.

Music-, and art history: (Italy, Low Countries and Germany)
Besides early music I like many kinds of jazz and popular music too. I'm a player of keyboard instruments such as organ, harpsichord, piano and accordion.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like many kinds of Renaissance, Baroque and Classical music very much, but I'm not a big opera listener. I'm an outright early music freak, but I feed my addiction in the inconsistent way by consuming instead of performing. Anyway I'm not a culture-shopper in terms of short-life interests.
I like and play many types of jazz if it's not to embellished and written down. Love gipsyswing/ manouche.
I recently got obsessed with Choro/Chorinho (see below), a term for popular Brazilian music preceding Samba, Bossa Nova, ... so I seem to give preference for genres with a rather straight-feel.
I can't seem to like any music generated or created 'as a tool' according to specific rules with the purpose of obvious manipulation of working performances, tranquility, or even brainwashing of the public. I do like background music, but I don't like 'designed' music.

A small selection of the films I have/like would reveal an interest in strong or short-impact stories. But I'm not all that familiar with cult-film to be honest.
Again, I can't seem to like any genre films generated or created 'as a tool' according to specific rules, such as most 'disaster films', for which you could imagine a standard form being filled in to generate a story. Especially disturbing is the mechanization of the creation of lame film music!

I rarely take time to read fiction but I enjoy it very much.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A recent obsession of mine is the discovery of the relatively unknown Chorinho, popular Brazilian music.
