Nice e meeting you fellow Travelers! My name is Don, Chinese, born in Hong Kong.

New to the Community, hope the get the ball rolling, would love to help my fellow travelers while they visit Hong Kong. If you need a Chinese local to help or getting a job around here or looking for a place to stay, I would like to help! So please feel free to start any conversation!

Grew up in UK when I was 11-21, had my good share of Europe during that 10 years! As my parents are both very keen travelers/explorers, I always at least tag along or dig in whenever I could, so I have already been to all continents' most major cities before I was 18!

During my university years in London, I drive all over Europe and made tons of friends back then!
But before 2000 when internet was still growing, mobile technologies back then are no where near where we are today, keeping in touch with worldwide friends was a little different back then should I say!

Super low resolution digital cameras and tiny memory cards was new then and looks like a toy to use back in my early travel days! So handling camera films with only 36 shots per film during a long trip had to really think carefully before taking a shot, since you cannot know what you took until you had the photos developed!

Lucky for this generation where a smart phone will have almost most things you need and WiFi everywhere! And need not to have long nights planning everything of your trips by buying travel books, making notes, asking friends before you head off to explore! Those were the days!

After settle back to my home town, my deeper exploration of what Asia had to offer came naturally! Especially when Hong Kong is the gateway to China and have been booming so quick to where China is today, it was so amazing to see society can grow in such way and pace!

It has been over 10 years since back in Asia. With the technology we have today, the world is now one big village, and people can have interaction with each other within this big village faster and easier everyday!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hoping with this app I can meet new friends, exchange stories and explore more places, and I really think this hosting - surfing (givers -takers) relationship provide a whole new horizon of possibilities!

Interests

Love my Golf and Sailing!!! I mix Golf around mostly Asia with site seeing and try new food quite a lot nowadays, and depending on when sailing races around Asia is, I mix off-shore sailing with some site seeing and try new food too. Other times I will leave Hong Kong are Family Trips with parents or Bros Trip. But really, I can't be traveling all the time, I do have to be Hong Kong since it's my hometown! So that is the reason I think this Hosting and Surfing concept is very interesting!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One Amazing thing... maybe... first under 18 representing Hong Kong to explore the Arctic Circle?! To be honest, I am not a good story teller, but sure willing to share as much memories as I can, would be great if you can be part of my next story even, we never know!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer my sincere friendship and hosting when inbound my hometown Hong Kong!

When prior understanding and time was sufficient before surfing at the host, I sure can go round my city to buy some local tasty snacks to bring for you and your loved ones (Remember to tell me if you have any allergy when eat certain food!!! I want to know to avoid any unwanted episode, for example, it might be a slightly longer journey than expected if I don't know your local language to call ambulance and where we are to take to to hospital!!! So remember to tell me if you have any allergy)

When hosting in Hong Kong, what I can offer is my second bedroom with single bed and a desk with an Apple i-mac to surf the web.
If you really don't mind squeezing within a single bed such as a couple or 2 lady friends (I really couldn't understand how in the position of 2 full grown adult man can fit without being awkward!?) I am ok with it as long as it was advanced confirmed with me prior confirmation the hosting, please respect that as I find not comfortable arriving home seeing a stranger without my expectation or allowing a stranger walk in my home if we have only just met without expectation! I have only one house rule I can think of that I need the surfer to respect:

"Not to allow anyone in my home other than my invited surfer only"

My second bathroom opposite the corridor is available for your use with shower, toilet, single basin and hair dryer, please do not hesitate to ask if you need things that I might have from my bathroom, please note I have relatively limited selection to offer for female surfers, but basic towels etc can just ask and I am happy to provide.

Welcome to cook in my kitchen, basic items should be available, but I don't have an oven, have microwave with grill, kettle, fridge, freeze, washing mashing with dry function (but it is a small load machine with only 4kg at a time)

I can also drive you to places whenever I can make available, really depending on my commitments at the time, so always best to communicate in advance for me to try make available as much as possible!

You need not to worry much in Hong Kong if you are really lost and don't know how to get home when out of money! As long as you manage to charge up your mobile phone to call me and send you your GPS location, I can drive over to pick you up, as long as you are not on surrounding island without roads!
