About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Continue to make connections and share experiences. Making those we host feel welcome, safe, and happy in our home. Exploring the wild spots of Tasmania. Daily meditation, cold water swimming, reading, and keeping fit.
ABOUT ME
Hello! :)
My partner Amy and I live in our cosy house on the slopes of Kunanyi, with our daughter Freya who is two years old. We have two cats named Kima and Yukio. We've often thought that Yukio must be a reincarnation of a dog as he always needs a pat and attention, especially from new people. Our house is around 30 minutes walk from the centre of Hobart, whilst we have bush on our doorstep and a wild mountain in the opposite direction. We've all had a lot of experience with travel and couchsurfing over the years. Amy works part-time as a teacher. I work as a nurse in mental health. Freya is delightful. The cats are still working on exploring the house and curling up into a variety of different positions by the fire.
I studied photography at Manchester uni and then mental health nursing in Scotland, which is where I first got into couchsurfing. I'm interested in the mind and enjoy helping people and enjoy my work even though its challenging! I love to be out on the mountain or in the sea.
PHILOSOPHY
No person is the same in this world and theres always something you can learn. Nature and good nature makes one healthly and happy.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I once lived in a large communal flat in Glasgow, where we hosted so many couch surfers. We've kept this up to a lesser degree here in Tasmania. It has been amazing to host and share experiences with couchsurfers from all over the world. We have met so many nice friends over the years. Things are a little different now with a small family, but we are still keen to open our home and welcome people in who are okay with young children/cats, and who will share our space respectfully. We tend to only accept people with references, preferably those who have hosted themselves before, but this is not always necessary.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Living in Scotland I got quite used to turning up in my Kitchen and having a smiley grateful traveller with interesting stories to share over warm food as we all shelter from the often harsh scottish weather. We regularly shared cooking/hiking/climbing/cycling/surfing/ideas/laughs/ a good few whiskeys and on the odd occasion tennacy agreements!
In Tasmania it's been nice to mostly host. Show people around this beautiful Island.
