About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To visit every continent of the world and be drunk in the process!

ABOUT ME

What can I say? In the last few years, I've become rather nomadic over the last few years and now have made the decision to leave London permanently. I enjoy the random experiences I encounter (good or bad) because you learn from it and take it forward. I'm on a mission to have as much fun as possible and clear my head of any expectations. I live for the moment so I want to have as much fun as possible and not think about the consequences. I enjoy travelling because you meet so many like minded people and I find it easier to relate to them as well as finding out about everyone's individual story. Travelling allows me to chase after the most aesthetic things in life and nothing ever becomes stale - hiking is one of the many activities I love as it combines it with taking in scenery and some exercise! I love cider and double chocolate muffins (weird mix I know) if anyone gives me a cider...you are my best friend for life;)

PHILOSOPHY

I have now adopted the nah philosophy which stands for nomadism, altruism and hedonism. I'm essentially a go wit h the flow kind of guy - whatever happens will happen and vice versa. Life is about living it and breathing it to the maximum.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by sharing my experiences with everyone and I hope that becomes mutually enriching.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfing has been great for me when I've stayed in places for some time. It was pretty important for me when I was in Cuenca and Medellin and used it a lot when going to events or meeting people. I've also met people who Ian still in contact with as you seem to meet like minded people.

Interests

I have many interests for instance music has always been important. I have a pretty eclectic range from classic indie rock (massive Smiths fan) to pure electronica/house, blues to reggae. When I was living in London I used to love going to gigs and check out the latest bands. By extension, this does mean that I like to go to bars and clubs if the vibe is good and can socialise with other people. I love my football and passionately support Manchester United. Though having lived in Medellin, Colombia for several months, I adopted Atletico Nacional as my second team and do try to follow them when I can. I love my cricket which is a complicated sport but love to explain it to people over a few beers. Hiking is a passion for me as I do like to take in the natural beauty of the areas I visit and see something different. I suppose I'm always chasing after the aesthetics in life and will always try something if it means I get a different experience. I took up Yoga in Ecuador and got into it so I'm always on the look out for someone who offers lessons and help improve my flexibility - love the fact it helps with maintaining an inner calm. Ultimately, as a traveller I love meeting other people because I do believe everyone has a story to tell and I'm always fascinated to find out.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm in the phase of reading Paulo Coelho back catalogue. I have recently finished reading the back catalogue of Haruki Murakami and the type of books I generally prefer to have some form of escapism and has some kind of mystery. Musically, my tastes are varied from indie rock to electronica or blues to reggae. The Smiths are my favourite band and 'There is a light that never goes out' is my all time favourite song. Movies wise, I'm in an art house phase where I do seem to enjoy foreign language films as they tell more about the culture of their countries.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The Patagonia experience in 2011 was simply amazing from when I went to El Chalten to hike up to Fitzroy mountain which was absolutely stunning and simply took my breath away. I then went to El Calafate to see Perito Moreno to see the glacier which left me speechless - I could see chunks of ice falling off! To round it off, I went to Ushuaia (the southernmost city in the world) and visited an island full of several hundred penguins which made it one or the most surreal experiences ever for me.

Colombia had 3 amazing moments for me in 2013. Firstly, going to carnaval in Barranquilla was crazy and staying in someone's 2 bed apartment with 25 other people with hammocks, mattresses and sofas everywhere was something you didn't forget. Also, the fact that the locals were obsessed with spraying foam and flour especially at gringos was just typical of Carnaval. When I hiked by myself for a few days in Cocuy which is a hidden gem - blew my mind because it reminded me of Patagonia and was just so quiet yet so beautiful. Finally, when the Atletico Nacional won the league title, the fans just partied on the streets covering everyone with flour and foam spray - I don't think I have seen so many people that happy and so friendly by insisting we helped finish their beers!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach how to be freespirited and not care too much. Freedom to express is something to cherish and try and embrace your surroundings. Plus, I'm great at spending very little and stretching travelling trips as long as possible.
