About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To leave it a little bit better. To cultivate justice. To enjoy the uncertainty and possibility of this grand adventure. To collect stories and create memories

ABOUT ME

I love meeting new people, collecting new experiences, broadening my interests. I enjoy storytelling/listening, exploring, and adventures--novelty is nice, as is the realization that it can be found in the seemingly familiar.

PHILOSOPHY

Ubuntu.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surfed several times in several countries. I'm just coming back to the site after a long hiatus and getting ready to make my space in Detroit available for other surfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first real couchsurfing experience was with Katerina on her home island of Spetses Christmas '07 and both she and the experience as a whole blew my mind. She went far above and beyond the call of duty and made it impossible for me not to have an incredible time.

Interests

Finding and cultivating hope, non-monetary economics, soccer (futbol), oral histories, reading, counter cartography, community organizing, gardening, photography, music, stories, literature, culture and anthropology, language, music, learning, expanding, water, rock climbing, spontaneity, traveling, couch surfing, meeting new people, and conversation

Music, Movies, and Books

Jim Harrison's books are fantastic (The Man Who Gave up His Name, story 2 in Legends of the Fall, is one of the very best I've read and I will re-read it many times); Origins of the Urban Crisis; Sam Lipsyte; Philip Roth, The Life of Pi; Getting Ghost by Luke Bergmann (nonfiction); Harper's; The New Yorker; The Atlantic; McSweeney's. Elegance of the Hedgehog.

Eclectic and changing tastes. Always looking for new music and open to suggestions (same with books and movies). Recently discovered Topicalia--loving it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have a sister who is 11 years younger than I and watching her grow up has easily been the greatest and most powerful experience in my life. She's a delightful and intelligent being and has surely taught me more than I will ever be able to teach her.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share about Detroit, past and present, how to do a headstand, detailed grammar/writing questions, Spanish practice, some basic guitar, a piece of a tap-dance solo I once did for love,

I'd love to learn who you are.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Italy, Morocco, Netherlands, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
