About Me

I'm a graphic designer, illustrator, and photographer with a focus on specialty coffee. I lived in Atlanta, Georgia for 13 years before relocating to Portland, Oregon to surround myself with good coffee and good design.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy traveling light and putting most of my focus on visiting area coffeeshops and eating delicious food. I like meeting new friends and connecting with people who know the ins and outs of a city. I like exploring and discovering the secrets within a city.

I'm currently set to "Not Accepting Guests" however I might make an exception for situations that make sense. I live in a small-ish studio, I often work from home, and I have a small dog.

Interests

Coffeeshops - the fancy kind! Food - all types, fancy and non-fancy. Interesting and whimsical gift shops, vintage, thrift stores, record stores, paper products, curios. Candy, donuts, ramen noodles. I also enjoy going to concerts and occasionally look for shows when I'm visiting a new place, or I will travel specifically to see a concert.

Music, Movies, and Books

For music, I mostly enjoy indie rock, post-rock, alternative types of music as well as hip hop. Bands like Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You, Mogwai, The Shins, Elliott Smith, Old 97s, Outkast, Janelle Monae, The Appleseed Cast, Daft Punk, etc.

For movies and television, I prefer dry humor and comedy, and superhero action movies. My favorite movies are Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Big Fish, I also like most Wes Anderson movies.

For books I like self-help for business, social innovators, and creatives. I also enjoy nerdy futuristic dystopia and fantasy, fiction novels, and the occasional theology book.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I outfitted a miniature teardrop camper with a tiny espresso machine and pulled it with my mini-cooper from Atlanta to Portland. This took me 20 days, and I called it the #CrossCountryCamperCoffeeCrawl. I stopped at 34 coffeeshops letting baristas make espresso out of the back of my camper.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to brew a delicious cup of coffee. :) In fact, I can teach you many things about coffee.

I know the culture of Atlanta and Portland, and am always happy to offer travel tips. I have also visited hundreds of coffeeshops worldwide, and can offer recommendations for most cities.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm respectful. I enjoy staying out late and sleeping in. I am clean and sober (8 years now!) so while I don't mind being around drinkers, I am not super comfortable around crazy parties or drug use. I do like visiting cocktail bars for the ambiance/decor and conversation and I usually order a mocktail. :) I'm an omnivore with no known food-allergies.
