ABOUT ME

We are Steven & Elke (both 29 in 2015). We got married in August 2010 after which we decided to discover the world - and we left Belgium to travel for one year in Asia, Australia and New-Zealand. That was definitely one of the best decisions we've ever made, we have great memories of this trip and we're already dreaming about the next one!

We started couchsurfing while we were on our 1year-trip and we've only had positive experiences. We've been hosted by so many wonderful people and we'd love to return the favour now, by hosting ourselves.

Steven is a primary school teacher. He works in Mechelen and simply loves his job.

Elke is a social worker, also in Mechelen.

We both were active in the youth movement.
Elke was a leader for Chiro. Steven was active in scouting for children with special needs (on a local, national & European level).

Elke likes to read a good book & Steven enjoys his mucis collection.
We're both vegetarians, just so you know :)

In 2013 we became parents for the first time. Our son Wolf was born in March. We loved (and still love) it so much, that we decided to do it again. Our daughter Reine was born in November 2014.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We love to share our stories and culture with a lot of different people from all around the world. We'd like to return the favour and give others the same experience as we had while traveling: a comfy couch and another great story!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We're getting addicted to couchsurfing! Experiencing couchsurfing for the first time in Singapore, after which we started hopping from one couch to another in Australia and New Zealand.
Through couchsurfing, we explored local hidden secrets, shared amazing stories and great laughs over good meals or drinks... It has been fantastic from the very first beginning!

兴趣

We love:
- traveling: we like a nice mix of culture, nature, big cities & beaches. We don't stick to one thing.
- food: we're both massive foodies! We get really happy when we can share a good meal with others. (We're 'flexitarians' - we're vegetarians when we're at home, but we do eat meat at special occasions.)
- music: we both like Belgian bands & singers who sing in Dutch (Flemish)
- small walks in town
- a good movie late at night with some chips and a (Belgian) beer
- day trips to anywhere
- cycling: we love to use a bicycle instead of the car
- board & card games
- hitch hiking!
- a good laugh
- Last but not least: we love our kids!

We both enjoy a wide range of music, although we have of course some preferences. We both like Belgian music.
Steven loves his CD collection filled with heavy, power, folk & thrash metal bands, he can be really 'active' on the concerts, but is relaxed any other time.

Elke reads the books, Steven the travel guides.

- Beautiful North-Sumatra with so much variation in nature & beauty.
- Myanmar, the country where all the people smile and help you as much as possible, despite their bad (political) situation
- The Never Never Creek 'Walk' in Bellingen, Australia (NSW)

We have an 'ecolife' calender which teaches us how to live more ecofriendly. We're happy to share this knowledge.
Steven is a 'weetjesman', so he knows a lot of random things... he'll be happy to share.
We're interested in a lot of things so happy to learn and teach!
