About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To enjoy life to its full, to be happy, creative and fulfilled in all that I do

ABOUT ME

Married to Joe, we have 2 dogs (Saffy who is 17 & a half years old now, and Jim the Dog who is 2 & a half years old Jack Russell) and 2 cats who live outside, three adult children (who don't live with us...) and two grandsons (who we wish lived nearer!) We've lived at Derrywillow since 1997, beside the river Shannon. We love boating, but sadly had to sell our 31ft twin-engine Senior :( I love meeting new people, so does Joe and we joined Couch Surfers because several members of our family are hosts and they highly recommend it. Besides, who knows when we might be looking for a couch somewhere ourselves? There's loads more I could tell you, but then we'd have nothing to talk about when you come to stay!

PHILOSOPHY

Life is for living :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Currently, we are happy to be hosts and aspire to being surfers ourselves whenever we go on our travels again.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have had many couchsurfers since we joined, some who have become good friends, some who have re-visited us, and we have enjoyed hosting them all.

Interests

Boating, walking, Punk and Hardcore music (Joe), languages (me), family, gardening (including a poly tunnel erected this spring!), carboot sales, Scrabble (me!), reading (both of us), cooking tasty dinners(especially Joe!), making tasty desserts (me).

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: anything by Bill Bryson, historical novels, anything by Henning Mankell, Roddy Doyle, and I was blown away by Room (Emma Donohue), The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls (wow...), The 100 year old Man Who Jumped etc (very funny) and so on...basically we read A LOT!!
Films: Anything with Johnny Depp in it (yes, including the pirate movies), Shawshank Redemption, Fitz Caraldo (Joe)
Music: Punk and Hardcore (Joe), Classical, Joan Armatrading, Faithless, Left Field and lots of other stuff :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Joe went to Antarctica in 2008, that was pretty amazing.
I went to the Sahara desert in 2000, which was very enjoyable (and sandy).

Teach, Learn, Share

Skills we have: gardening, boating, doing a lot with a little, cooking/baking, teaching adult literacy/English as a foreign language (me)
Stuff we know: knowledge of local walks, extensive knowledge of Irish Punk/Hardcore music (Joe), great with children (both), but couldn't eat a whole one...

Countries I’ve Visited

Antarctica, Argentina, France, Portugal, Tunisia

Countries I’ve Lived In

Belgium, Ireland, United Kingdom
