Hi my name is Evelyn :) I was originally born in Nashville Tennessee and then moved to Dallas Texas when I was still a child. I grew up in Pennsylvania, however, and I have lived in South Carolina for six years now. I wonder if I am more of a nomad now because I love traveling, meeting new people, and learning about different cultures and traditions. There is so much joy in this world and I fully embrace the love we can find in all beings :)

I worked professionally for ten years in the IT field consulting for Fortune 50 companies in the United States. After the first three or four years the job became more of a paycheck than an interest in technology and computers. So it took me a few years but I went to school and found a deep passion for psychology. I am working on my undergraduate degree now and I plan to continue in school until I earn my doctorate. I hope to one day work with Doctors Without Borders :)

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I grew up in a conservative missionary family as a child and was fortunate enough to travel and live in Africa because of it. I now consider myself more spiritual than religious. Our lives are shaped by our experiences so I have learned to appreciate all beings and cultures because we are all connected and we all look at life differently. That is the beauty of this world and it is what makes me smile :)

I love meeting new people and learning new things. I am fascinated by languages and will be learning many more. I love the philosophy of couch surfing and fully support a global community of like-minded individuals meeting and traveling the world. I joined because I am a student at USC right now but I really want to travel the world. It is not the right time in the my life for that now so hosting other travelers is the next best thing :)

Intereses

I volunteer locally to support my community. I love to sit out on my front porch swing and enjoy the weather. I particularly enjoy the rain :) I love yoga, reading, cooking, and running. I sew and I am learning how to make my own clothes. I am also working on two book projects.

Música, películas y libros

I listen to a lot of classical music but I enjoy almost all other genres. Queen is probably one of my favorite bands along with the Beatles and the Smiths. I am slowly adding to my record collection and love listening to old vinyls. I enjoy art films and old black and white movies. I am a member of the local art house theater and I recently shared a Sundance Now subscription with a friend to watch documentaries.

I sat in a dewy field of four leaf clovers. I watched a spider trap and wrap up a fly. I felt the wind blow through my hair and the sun's warmth on my skin on four different continents and it always made me smile :) I have loved and hated someone at the same time. I have come to realize that wherever you are all beings smile and express joy and happiness in the same basic ways :)

I can teach you to juggle :) I always appreciate the opportunity to learn more about different languages and others' traditions, cultures, and religions. I can fix basic tears in clothing or replace a button. I am learning to make my own jewelry and I live next door to a bead shop so supplies are readily available.

I can share my own stories and life experiences. I love to talk about politics and global social issues. I enjoy discussions about religion and philosophy because everyone has a different perspective. Hearing others' can only challenge my own and either progress them or mature them. I mostly eat local organic food when possible. I lived a vegan lifestyle for 2 1/2 years and a vegetarian one for 3 years so I feel that I have come to understand and appreciate food in many different ways. I would love to cook something with you and share each others views on food culture.
