About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Liaise with like-minded people en route to The Garden Festival

ABOUT ME

We're Finn and Giff. In June 2011 we're going to cruise across Europe in our van on our way to The Garden Festival in Croatia. We want to meet as many people who can show us as much cool stuff as possible.

Finn, or Seamus as he is colloquialy known, or Rama IVth as he is known to the island people of Tuvalu, is a complex character. He is multi faceted not only in the fact that he is three dimensional but also in the depth of his being. A friend to me through everything and the kind of person I'd love to one day be. Housing the creativity of an entire house full of creative creatives he is destined to go far and when he does I'll probabally be there living in an apartment above his garage, because I know he would do that for me. It's been a joy to go through life with him so far, long may it continue. You should totally meet him.(By Giff)

Giff is a student of Bristol UIEUEIEIIEIEIIEE where he studies Business and Spanish. He's been my best friend for seventeen years and I am extremely excited to be making this journey with him. He's a salt of the earth kid, who gets more worldly each time I speak to him. He's the Laurel to my Hardy, the Joel to my Ethan. He's done more than his fair share of travelling and I think it's about time I amassed some stories with him, before he's done everything. (By Finn)

PHILOSOPHY

Life's a garden: dig it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Finn is currently failing in life and rocking life with the parents and has no sofa to offer. I do enjoy the meeting of randoms and am an avid supporter of 'The Cause', regularly yelling 'for the cause' before doing something I probably can't achieve or something very stupid.. roll on the time when I can have a sofa of my own to offer.

Giff, what do you do?- Good question, being swept along in the UK university system doing your general Business related degree along with thousands of others vying for the same jobs as me. Taking the time to explore Bristol, if you get the time to visit then dont think about it, just do it, its awesome. I have a couch, its red and covered in cat hair, but you're more than welcome.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Hmm.. we're virgins; if you will.

Interests

So, this is my (Finn's) interests: film, music, pubs/beer, people, language, travel. That whole bag really.

Giff...ditto, that could be why we're friends, but I think its because we're friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

Ah.. this is where it gets rather tricky. So, without being a dick, here's a list of some things I like; it's not definitive.

Films: The Fall, Primer, Old Boy, Brick, Memento, Stranger than Fiction, The Time Machine (1960), Stand by Me, O'brother, Garden State, 28 Days Later, V for Vendetta, Black Dynamite, Stranger than Fiction.

Music: The Nextmen, The Guts, Nightmares on Wax, Black Grass, a range of classical artists but to name drop Bach in particular. Again I don't want to simply reel off names as that negates a potential conversation.. Offer just enough to whet the appetite.

And now literature: I am picky as I'm a bit thick and a tad dyslexic so reading does indeed take me longer than most resulting in me not being quite as up to scratch as I'd like to be. I read a fair amount of children's fiction - Joseph Delaney's Spooks books are pretty sweet. Also the Bartimaeus trilogy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

An interesting question again.. I climbed a live volcano which was 4095 metres high, pushing it to the verge of 'you should really take oxygen with you'. More so though it's a mountain which goes into the '4000m+' colour band on terrain maps so I can say I've been everywhere from the lightest green to the darkest red on foot. It's the little things in life.

Teach, Learn, Share

This is a pretty sweet subject area! Very good ethos.

So - feathers to my bow. Obviously a number of film related things but also am a huge advocate of DIY and general craft-type things. I have a shed so it's pretty serious. A good shed too.

I'm very much computer literate (mac - sorry.) and subsidise my income by undertaking website and print design commissions.

I did once drum for several years however the kit was a bit too large and loud for practical use in the end; it'd be good to tinker again though.

But I do love people - we need to bring back the lost art of conversation. I'm pretty confident I can find at least a shred of common ground with almost anyone (sorry Nick Griffin, I just can't see me going there) and enjoy a chat over a coffee or a debate over a pint just as much as the next ginger guy called Finnian.
