What I like about growing older is the feeling of slowly getting better at understanding other people, as well as myself. I love to listen to someone and feel how their experiences, thoughts, emotions and beliefs resonate with my own. I love it when I find the right words to express what I really feel and to realize that what I say touches the person I'm talking to.
I love conversations where we ask ourselves those questions that go beyond the answers where we usually stop, allowing us to imagine together how we want things to be. Putting the world we imagine together into practice together is even more exciting :-)

I love learning, though most of what I learned was in informal ways. I like to explore communication : how we can go beyond judgement, how empathy allows us to see things from other people's points of view, ...

I'm a musician (multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and composer) and polyglot. I've always been very curious, so what I love most is any kind of creative activity: improvising, learning things, inventing stuff (theories, tools, ...), writing (songs, poetry, ...).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting real people, sharing! I think life is about people and we are so many and so diverse. It's marvelous to discover another soul and how we can connect and move one another.

I like couchsurfing because it's (often) a great way to meet someone and get past superficial codes quite fast. It resonates with other choices I make in life : learning languages to discover other ways of being, get to know others by playing music and singing together, hitchhiking in order to step into different realities while moving, ... I like deeper conversations in smaller groups (one-on-one or just a couple of people), I like to listen and be listened to, let people finish their thoughts and make time for nuance and complexity. But I also enjoy experiencing how other people interact between each other.

Interests

people, music, language, laughing, growing food, community, reading/writing, traveling, teaching, ...

I play guitar, bass (double bass and electric bass), piano/keys, percussion/drums, a bit of trumpet. I was trained in jazz but I love so many styles and especially stuff that's not so easy to put into a category. I love to sing and to sing with other people, especially when the lyrics/poetry are nice.

I like absurdity. I like being around people with a sense of humor and self-relativation (although I am aware that sometimes those are signs of huge privilege).

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I mostly love to sing and play music, different kinds, acoustic (or electric) but played live, not generated by computers and robots.
My influences : I discovered the Beatles when i was 7 :) just to name one :) the list is too long... anything between monk and radiohead, salsa and conceptual, stravinsky and shakira. and of course General Bazaar and the Cardinal Points of Conspiracy or any other real non-famous cool music projects.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

making people happy through music, growing real food to feed people I love, community life with all sorts of beautiful crazy people, riding on the roof of a freight train in Texas, 4 days in Tektake village near Selibaby in Mauritania, busking in the streets of Odessa, hitch-hiking from Brussels to Dakar and back, conducting a big band in Poland, getting in the car (or home) of a perfect stranger and feeling like I've met a friend by the time I get out again, ...
